Porter, Olive Marie

Porter, Olive Marie

November 30th, 2017

Passed away peacefully, on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at Victoria Hospital in London.  Olive was the loving mother and mother-in-law of Robert Porter and Therese McGuire, Cameron (Cheryl) Porter, Douglas (Ingrid) Porter and Graham Porter and Marlene McGrath.  Cherished grandmother of Ryan, Sean Brandreth, Sam, Evan, Kathryn, Claire and James Porter.  Predeceased by half-sisters, Gertrude and Eileen and her parents, John and Caroline Anderson.  Olive was born in Edmonton on April 18, 1927, raised in Calgary and moved to Ontario to attend Queen’s University.  Her first job was at CBC in Toronto, before she settled in London, where she taught at The University of Western Ontario and became Director of Consumer Debt Counselling Services.  Olive was an avid reader, a world traveller and opera buff.  She dabbled in art and photography, enjoyed puzzles and loved to debate issues of the day.  She will be sadly missed by family and friends.  A special thanks to her caregivers and the medical staff at Victoria Hospital.   A memorial service will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Olive are asked to consider Mission Services of London.

Donna morgenrothHad every intention of being at the service but have a nasty cold today and am going nowhere. My condolences to you Graham and Marlene and your families. I have many fond memories of the years I worked with Olive and Leo at Consumer debt Counselling. We always had such interesting conversations over long lunches. Loved her wit and humor. I know she will be missed but she has left a warm impression on many who came to know her over the years. Sorry I can't be at the service today.
