Symmers, Todd

Symmers, Todd

June 8th, 2021

Our beautiful brother, son, uncle, and friend, Todd Symmers, suddenly and peacefully completed his journey on Earth on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Born on June 2, 1971, his family was privileged to have him for 50 wonderful years.

Predeceased by his Dad, John Symmers, Aunty Kathy, Uncle Richard, Aunty Yvonne, and Aunty Cecile. He is survived by his Mom, Annette Symmers; brother, Rod Symmers (Louisa); sister, Charmaine Symmers; brother and sister-in-law, Randy Symmers and Chantel Souliere; nephews, Ryan and Connor Symmers; nieces, Callie and Lydia Symmers; along with all his special cousins.

Annette lost her son and her rock. She will miss the dinners, the constant, “Are you ok Mom?”, talking politics, coffee trips, game shows, and lottery purchases. She is forever grateful to him for ensuring she was in a beautiful home close to her grandchildren.

Rod is reminded in little ways every day that Todd was a blessing in his life. He will cherish the motorbike rides throughout Key West, hiking in B.C., and the many occasions with his girls.

Charmaine lost her brother as well as her best friend. She will miss analyzing life, griping at him as he laughs in return, the car inspections every time she got out of the car, the bike rides, morning funny texts, and the senior hour restaurant trips.

Time spent with Todd meant everything to Randy - something there never was enough of. Truck rides, all things Rock (at an early age), volleyball, and sports with relatives - memories made to last a lifetime.

Todd adored and appreciated his sister-in-law, Chantel and she will miss discussing the intricacies of the birthday banana cake with him every year.

Todd was a mentor and role model to his nephews, Ryan and Connor, and was always amazed by their keen wit. Uncle Todd loved every minute in the pool throwing them in the air, the bike rides, birthday celebrations, funny cards, FaceTime calls, skating, and the outdoor hockey games.

To his nieces, Callie and Lydia, he loved the fires, the BBQs, and making sure you did not go without for back-to-school fashion. Seeing you all smile was what made him full. He was proud to be your Uncle!

Quiet, content, yet unassuming, a commanding pillar of strength much like his Dad. Humility was one of his greatest assets. Todd was a private person but, to those close to him, you were his family and that meant everything to him. His selflessness was immeasurable even if that meant going without so you would not. He was a gentle soul who enjoyed the simple things in life. Content in his comfort zone, we were happy just to be sharing the space with him. He gave so much but, all we wanted was his company, his presence, and his humour. If he was in the room, we were laughing. You could not be around him without him making some funny comment that would crack everyone up and we are cherishing all his silly “Todd-isms” now.

Todd, we love you, and you are gone too soon but, we know that your destiny on this Earth was fulfilled. Our family is broken but, we will live every day following your example.

One of the results of his sudden passing was an enlarged heart. This does not come as a surprise to his family. We already knew he had a huge heart.

A get-together will be held in memory of Todd at a future date.

Book of Condolences

Charmaine SymmersWell Todd. I am broken. I am sure you are finding it humorous that I am compelled to make a public declaration of how great of a brother you were and how painful it is now. I don't really know how to live without you. After all the things we would laugh about and now look who is left behind. Every plan for the future was to pay you back for all that you had given to me and our family throughout our lives. Thanks for putting up with me and being such a great friend. Most of all thanks for "getting me" and laughing with and at me for 50 years. Lakeshore rides will never be the same. Or the search for the best restaurants. I will miss you forever. Love you and miss you. Charmaine

My thoughts are with you Auntie Annette, Rod, Charmaine and Randy. You have an exceptional son and brother who was taken far too soon. My condolences to you and your extended family.
Maureen AttwellDear Annette and Family, I wanted to let you all know that your memories of Todd, and who he was to you, was without a doubt the nicest tribute that I have ever read for anyone. You all individually captured the young man that I worked with for many years at moments in time that truly touched my heart. Todd was all of those things and then some………..and the most remarkable quality about Todd was that he really had no idea that he was as special as he was………..which made him even more special. Todd was an anomaly, it was hard to define him, as in a world that is so selfish and self-absorbed, Todd was the exact opposite every time. He was a larger than life walking talking example of what it means to be funny and kind, and giving at all cost for the other person. I do not know if Todd even knew how to take……he was too busy being kind to everyone to even consider reciprocity. I never saw Todd irritated let alone angry, that big warm smile was always front and present, and his willingness to pitch in was never in question. Anyone who had Todd in their life whether short or long knows that they are a better person for having known him. I have not worked with Todd for 8 years now but I can truly say that the 12 years I did work with him left an indelible impression of an extraordinary, once in a lifetime human being on my heart……………how lucky am I I have sent something to Lakeview for you and the family in memory of Todd. I sent it out on Friday before the obituary was printed. The chapel has assured me you will get it when it arrives. It struck me when I finally did see Todd’s obituary how we both have the same memories of this lovely young man’s personality. That is because Todd was genuine and what you saw was what you would always see with him regardless of who you were…….and that speaks volumes about Todd. With deepest sorrow on his passing to you and the family, and everyone whose life Todd touched. Remembering Todd with great affection, and gratitude for having known him. Maureen Attwell

Shannon VaughanI am heartbroken that such a beautiful kind soul has left us. Todd was one of a kind for sure. I worked with him for 18 years and when ever I was about to go on afternoons with Niki, Danica, Don, Todd and the gang I was so happy. I knew that we were going to laugh, have fun and no matter what have each others back. I can't thank you enough friend for renewing my faith in humanity and showing me what a true gentleman is. My deepest condolences to the rest of your beautiful family. May you rest in peace. Sleep well.

Cousin Steven B & KirstaWow it is so hard trying to type with tears in your eyes! Reminds me of kinda like that time i let YOU drive the boat in Long Point Bay a few years ago, and it wasn't because of the waves hitting us in the face as you sliced thru the water, it was because i was laughing so hard at how frigging slow you were going! I kept jabbing at you that your Mom ("June" or "Daisy duke of Kelso" was it that Rod called her) use to drive faster then this on the way to Canada's Wonderland when we were kids. You know i'll be missing your Birthday text "Hey Stevie Van Halen" every August And i will be playing a song for you cuz.

R.A.May the love, kindness and genuine joy you showed everyone, surrounds you for always. My sincere condolences to your family, no mother should ever have to bury her child, no sibling should lose bond and no nieces and nephews should be deprived of a great mentor like you Todd. In the words of Maya Angelou : "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again.” I will miss those incomparable laughs.
Jacquie SmithA true friend gone so soon. . It was so pleasant to work with him. Thinking of Todd, immediately seeing his beautiful smile…I’ll never forget your kindness. My condolences to Annette, family and friends.
Amir FaresOur heartfelt condolences to your family such a nice guy always smile in his face on lunch room we will miss you have nice journey to heaven.
Michael NicolasTodd was so amazingly laid back and unflappable. And I took it to heart when he was so entertained by me showing my more humorous side in the early years at work. In many ways he encouraged me to start showing that off a little more as the years went on. He was in many ways the type of guy I wish I could be. After one day being frustrated with someone, he told me once that he has expressed frustration with that same person. I had trouble believing him not because of the person he was referring to, but because he was referring to himself and that there was no way he could actually show any frustration much less anger. But you know what I'm having even more trouble believing? The fact that he's no longer with us. Todd-wiser, I'll miss hanging out with you in the lunch room during our breaks. You really were a calming presence for people like me at a workplace like Casino Woodbine. That for sure will be missed, but for sure you'll be missed for so much more. My condolences to his family and closest friends, but especially to Annette and Randy who I got to know on and off over the years. I know I'm not the only person who will be having a drink for him in the future. A TRUE CASINO WOODBINE ORIGINAL!! This Todds for you!!
