David Garth Pugh

May 5, 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Garth Pugh on May 5, 2013, following an overwhelming illness that robbed him of his memories and his boundless energy far too soon.  Born on February 11, 1932, in London, Ontario, the only child of John E. (Ted) and Edna (Morris) Pugh, Dave served with the London Fire Department, retiring as Platoon Chief after 35 years of dedicated service.  After retiring to Port Franks, Dave served on the municipal council of Bosanquet Township for 9 years, and continued serving in the Optimist Club of Ausable Port Franks until 2010.  Dave loved dogs, Lake Huron, big boats and fast cars, as well as building and renovating anything he could get his hands on!  He was dependable and generous of spirit, always willing to help others with a ready smile.  He was lovingly protective of his family, friends and many pets.  Dave was easy-going but very hard-working with an entrepreneurial spirit.  He was a model of creativity, dependability and generosity for all those around him.  Dave will be greatly missed by all, especially his wife Sheila Hayes-Pugh, and children Becky Barcauskas (Jim), Shelley Steeper (Ron), James Hayes (Cheryl), Leah Hayes-Pugh (Chris), Ryan Hayes (Lindsey) and DJ Pugh (Michelle).  Much-loved Grandpa to Jessica Barcauskas, Jeremy Steeper (Krystal), Julie Steeper, Josh Steeper, Devin Hayes-Pugh and two more babies expected this summer.  Life-long friend of over 70 years to Ted Davies, of London.  The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff on the second floor of Kensington Village Nursing Home for their compassion and care over the last three years, and to the staff on the 9th floor of University Hospital for their support over the last ten days of Dave’s battle.  We would like to invite all friends and relatives to come and share their memories at a Celebration of Life in honour of Dave, to be held on Friday, May 17th, 2013 at the IVEY SPENCER LEADERSHIP CENTRE, 551 Windermere Road, London from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society of London or to the L.H.S.F. – Cancer Centre would be greatly appreciated.
