John Alexander Henry Farquharson

January 17, 2014

“Bless this food to our use and us to Thy service…in Jesus’s name we pray, Amen.” John Alexander Henry entered into the loving arms of Jesus, Friday, January 17, 2014, in his 81st year of wholesome earthly living. A servant of Christ and a humble ‘food production specialist,’ John devoted his time, energy and talents to the awesome life-giving cycle of sowing and reaping God’s bounty, and raising a family. Farming is what he knew and loved. John was always willing to lend a helping hand, and forever the consummate quipster.

John’s living legacy is his wife of 53 years Alice (nee Brooksbank), children Brenda & Gerard, Brian & Laurie, Kimberly, and Larry, and grandchildren Meaghan & Tyler Schell, and Samantha, Danielle, Jacob & Kyle Farquharson.

Lovingly remembered by John’s brothers and in-laws Robert & Evelyn, Ray & Cherie, Reg & Mary Jane, and sister Betty Daymond, brother-in-law Gordon Brooksbank and sister-in-law Beth Conliffe, twenty nieces and nephews and their families, lifelong friends Doug & Carrie Buchanan, Byron and Riverside church friends, many cousins, and Tilbury East, South Caradoc, and Delaware neighbours.

John is predeceased by his parents Alfred (1990) and Edna (nee Vince; 2003), parents-in-law Fred (1978) and Lyla (1981), in-laws Donald (1983), Kenneth (1989), Marlene (2002), Dorothy (2012), Patricia (2012) and Lloyd (2013), nephew Paul (2008), and grandniece Kristin (2005).

Pastors Rev. Greg Brawn, Rev. Chris Beaumont and Rev. Dr. Art Hiley will lead a service to celebrate John’s life at Byron United Church, 420 Boler Road, London on Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation at 1 p.m. and a reception to follow. Cremation has taken place, with interment at a later date at Stewart Cemetery, Tilbury East.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be directed to the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, the Heart & Stroke Foundation or Byron United Church Mission Outreach Fund.

Thinking of you all at this time of grief and loss. While your hearts will be heavy, your sense of peace and God's presence will guide and strengthen you for the tasks at hand. Bless you, Alice, as you journey without John at your side, knowing that he is in God's loving care. May you be blessed as you have been a blessing to so many others in their time of loss. Lovingly, Joan

Dear Alice, Brenda, Brian, Kimberley, Larry and families, So sorry to hear of John' s passing only tonight. John loved to farm and worked with us for a few years. He loved his family and was a gentle Christian man. Alice and John invited us to the Castle square dancing club some 20 years ago which we are still members of. You all will be in our thoughts and prayers at this time and may your many memories of a kind husband, dad and grandfather comfort you.
