Gordon Charles Scott

February 3, 2014

Peacefully, after an eight year battle with Alzheimer’s, Gord passed away at the Veteran’s Wing of Parkwood Hospital on Monday, February 3rd, 2014. He is now entertaining the Angels on his beloved mandolin and telling them they can have the rest of the day off. He joins his parents Isabel and Ernest, brothers Ernie, Wilf, Kenny and Donnie and his sisters Belle, Dorie, Ethel and Marjorie. He leaves behind his wife, Corry, whom he met in Holland in 1945 and married in 1947. Two sons, Ron and Mark (Lisa), three granddaughters, Holly, Shannon and Keira and grandson Nigel. Gord was a WWII veteran, fighting in the Italian campaign and became a career soldier 1947 – 1970. He joined the staff of the Physical Plant at the University of Western Ontario and retired in 1978, enjoying the winters in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas until 2004. Gord sponsored Corry’s family to come to Canada from Holland and they arrived in 1953. They were: her parents Maria and Jan van der Moer and their children Tom, John, Bert, Joann, Will and Henny (Maxted). They, and their extended family will miss him and wish him peace, at last. The memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday, March 2nd, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer Outreach Services (AOS) of McCormick Home, 2022 Kains Road, London, ON, N6K 0A8 will be greatly appreciated.

To Tante Corry, Ron, Mark and your families. "Whoever you hold in the heart of you, Will forever be a part of you." We are so sad to hear about Uncle Gord's passing. I will always remember his great sense of humour, kindness and the twinkle in his eye. Rest peacefully.

Hello Corry and the rest of the Scott family, especially Ron. Since I met you all in 1960 at Soest Germany, we have formed a relationship since then such that I feel that all of you form a part of MY family as well. Gord (and Corry of course) always welcomed me in their home, and without a doubt, my most significant memory was when I visited you all in London Ontario and Gord played the Mandolin...I was awed ...he played it beautifully. I have always liked Gord, his personality and rationale shows on his children, and I think that is why Ron is still my very best friend to this day - he is a lot like Gordon in many ways. It is a shame that because of my life and family circumstances I was not able to visit your home more often, but I assure you, I hold treasured and happy memories of him in my mind. I want to say on behalf of my Brother Ken, Sister Gloria (Whom you knew well - especially Ron) and my wife Marga, Son Robbie and Danny and Daughter Angie , that we all wish to extend our most sincere and profound condolences - our hearts are with you. Sincerely, Bob Gourlay and family.

Hello Ronald and Corry, Tony and I send our heartfelt sympathy to you on the passing of your dear Father and Husband. We have never forgotten how welcome you all made us on our visit to Canada some years ago. I was so surprised when I asked Gordon over the telephone "how will I know it is you" when he was coming out to dunkin doughnuts to take us to his house - his reply was "I drive a white Mustang that goes 100 miles per hour" and when he eventually found us he looked just liked Tonys Father - the likeless was amazing - as was the likeness in the build of Tony and Ronald. We hope that all goes well for you on the day of the memorial service, our prayers and sincere thoughts will be with you all. We give our blessing to a true gentleman.

Our thoughts are with the family on Gord's passing.
