Peacefully on Saturday, October 25th, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Hospice (London), in his 86th year. Beloved husband and cherished companion for 53 years of Eileen (née Whelan). Loving Dad of Mark Dobell and Jessica, and Diane Jamieson and Andrew. Much loved Papa of Erin, Nicole and Mark Jamieson. Brother of Peter Dobell and Jane. Brother-in-law of Terry Whelan and Joanne, Brian Whelan and John Whelan. Predeceased by his parents Sydney Dobell and Mary, and by his sister-in-law Doris Whelan. Will be missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was a dedicated professor of political science for over 30 years at U.W.O., specializing in Canadian Foreign Policy and International Relations. The family extend their deepest gratitude to the nursing and caring staff of St. Joseph’s Hospice. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, October 30th, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bill are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Hospice (London), 485 Windermere Road, London, Ontario N5X 2T1.

It was with great sadness we learned today about the passing of Bill. We had the pleasure of traveling with Bill and Eileen on a trip to the Galapagos in 2012 and we have many great memories of that time spent with them both. Bill was particularly patient with our young daughter and they shared some special moments together viewing and contemplating that magnificent place with its rugged coastlines and fragile wildlife. We will all remember him with great fondness, he was a very special person.
Diane, Andrew and family; Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you as you say goodbye and celebrate the life of your Dad. He was a good man and will be missed.
