Calvert ‘Cal’ Reginald Jarmain

April 30, 2016

It is with great sadness l announce the passing of my wonderful father, Calvert Reginald Jarmain, in his 95th year.  Born August 16, 1921, he was the loving husband of 63 years of marriage to the late Roma May Jarmain (McDonald). Father of my late sister, Carin Roma Reid, and myself, Leah Ellen Jarmain Baker. Grandfather to Michael (Paula) Reid, Mark (Melanie) Reid, Jonathan (Deanna) Baker and Kimberly Baker.  Great-grandfather to Summer Reid and Caleb Reid.  Family meant everything to him.  Calvert will also be remembered by his sister, Geraldine Rittenhouse; sister-in-law, Lily (Nick) Homorodean; and brother-in-law, John (Karen) McDonald.  Cal will be missed by his many family, friends and neighbors, as well as his caretaker of 8 years, Terri (Gerry) Millier.  He is predeceased by his parents, Norman and Ellen Jarmain; brother Gerald; brothers and sisters-in-law, Merlin (Madelaine) Jarmain, Tim (Gladys) Jarmain, Elva (Robert) Muylaert, and June (Art) McIntyre.  As the OHL MVP two years in a row while playing with the Strathroy Rockets hockey team, Cal was given an invite to try out for the Toronto Maple Leafs.  The legendary Conn Smythe pulled him aside in the final try-out and told him to go home and grow. Since that day, Cal and his daughters were Montreal Canadiens fans. He was very proud to be a World War II Veteran having served with the Canadian Navy aboard the HMCS Eyebright. Upon his return from the war, he worked for the Federal Government in finance until retirement when he signed up for active duty as Grandpa. He golfed every weekend and especially loved being a hockey “Grandpa”, and recently great-Grandpa.  He was intelligent, loving, generous and a true gentleman.  He will be missed, but most of all, he will be treasured for all he gave us. The funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016 at 1:30 p.m., with visitation one hour prior.  Interment to follow at Strathroy Cemetery.  Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Cal are asked to consider the MS Society of Canada or the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex.

What a great man! He was the definition of a kind and loving father, one that I always admired growing up and ever since I've known him. Thanks for being the wonderful father and grandfather to my dear friend Leah and Kim and Jonathan! (And thanks for your patience in teaching the game of Euchre..those many years ago.) To Leah, Kim and Jonathan may you find peace and comfort in all your wonderful memories of such a great man! All our love Brenda, Jim, Kendra & Shaun
