LE BER, William “Bill” John Thornton

September 22, 1927 – May 22, 2016

Bill passed away peacefully in his 89th year. He did so holding firmly to the promise of Jesus that “The one who believes in me shall live, even though they die.” John 11:25. Bill will be sadly missed by Jane, his wife and partner of 64 years but has been reunited with their daughter Elizabeth (1955-1956). He leaves behind his daughter Suzanne (Peter) Mogan and son James “Jim” (Marlene). To his five grandchildren: Robyn (Noah) Bright, Katie (Will) Graham, Fraser, Gavin and Lauren, he was known and loved as “Bopa”. Bill was predeceased by his brother Robert “Bob” Le Ber (1980) and is survived by his loving sister Barbara (Victor) Hibbs and sister-in-law Ellie Le Ber. Bill graduated in 1950 from the Ontario Agricultural College (now U of Guelph) with a degree in Chemistry and then went on to earn a Masters Degree in Education from University of Ottawa. He spent his career as a high school teacher and guidance counsellor in St. Catharines at Sir Winston Churchill school and other area schools. Bill’s summer spent working at Ontario Pioneer Boy’s Camp led him to his faith, and began an enduring relationship with Pioneer Camps which has been continued by all his children and grandchildren. He and Jane were active members of Queen Street Baptist Church in St. Catharines, and during their many summers at Lake of Bays they were members of the Norway Point Church community. On moving to the London area in 2001 they joined North Park Community Church. Friends will be received at North Park in London on Thursday, May 26th from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., and on Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of Bill’s life will then be held at North Park at 11:00 a.m. Guests are invited to stay for a reception hosted by the family’s community of friends at North Park Community Church, 1510 Fanshawe Park Road.
