Although I did not know your Mom personally, I so appreciated your gift of "A good house" and I'm grateful for that opportunity to appreciate her talent. Reading her book made me feel like we'd shared something really special. May happy memories comfort you.

Farewell, Bonnie, it was an honour to have known you.

The last time I was out for dinner with Bonnie, I suppose she was looking her age, and a waitress called her 'dear.' That did not go over well. But recalling her encouragement, her strength and her ability to have fun, I have to say, whether she'd have liked it or not, that she was a dear, in her own inimitable way. My sympathies go out to D'Arcy, Melanie and David, and all whom she held dear.

Bonnie was a fellow writer who did a lot to put Canadian literature on the map. I read with her at venues here and in the UK when the world was still waking up to the fact that writers existed north of the 49th parallel. Last night my partner the editor Patrick Crean and I were looking at the stories in her wonderful collection Casino and commenting on how well her fiction stands up over time. She was a superb craftswoman and a staunch believer in literary activism. I once got into a messy public fight with a critic over the nominees for a Governor General's award list. I was feeling discouraged when the phone rang one morning and Bonnie said in her cheery way: Susan, we need good jurors in this country and you are one. She hung up without saying anything more. That was Bonnie, talented, big-hearted and to the point. I will miss her.

Dear Family, I did not know Bonnie personally. I must say that reading 'A Good House' one summer, while camping near Ipperwash made an amazing difference to my holiday. I appreciate her talent & extend my condolences to you all.

I have very fond memories of Bonnie, from our Regina years. "Casino" is still in my library, along with "The Good House." Her death is a very sad loss and I send sincere condolences to Bonnie's family and friends.

Years ago, in Saskatoon, I was truly honoured and delighted when Bonnie requested my paintings for her early book jackets. Our work seemed to fit. I loved and respected her writing and was grateful for her interest and appreciation of my visual art. Clearly Bonnie was the center of a large and loving family and will be sorely missed.

D'Arcy, Melanie and David - my sincerest condolences. I can only echo what others have already said. Your mother made me feel welcomed in her home and there are so many happy moments to treasure.

My heart breaks for my dear friend and sister-in-law D'Arcy, my brother Ivan, and their children Emma and Alex. Thinking of David, Melanie and Lloyd and their children Brandon and Daniel as well during this time. Bonnie always welcomed me graciously into her home, and I will forever cherish the fond memories I have from the past 20+ years. My husband Ryan, our children Ava and Chase and my mother Darinka send our deepest condolences to the Burnard family.

When Bonnie's novel, The Good House, won at the SAsk. Book Awards she said that hers was "a light among many" but oh how brightly it shines now, for her family, and the literary community in Canada.

D'Arcy, Melanie and David, we were so saddened to hear that our dear cousin had passed on. It has been a few years since I last seen her. Thinking it was at my dad's (Alex Brandon) 80th Birthday Party. She was a wonderful, kind woman and will be missed by many. Keep all your happy memories of her close to your heart and she will be with you always. Our most sincere condolences to you all.
