Marilyn Anne Worden

October 2, 2017

Went peacefully on Monday, October 2nd, 2017 after a hard fought struggle with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). Marilyn will be sadly missed by her friends and family. As per Marilyn’s request, there will be no visitation, funeral service or memorial. In lieu of any flowers or charity donation, Marilyn has left this following request. “If you recall one thing that I did to make lives better or bring you a moment of happiness that will be my legacy. Give someone a hug and smile daily. Say prayers for someone daily. Do a daily good deed.” To quote Peggi McDonald (former RV Gazette writer), “look at life through the windshield, not through the rearview mirror.”

It is difficult for us to believe that Marilyn has truly gone. For the past 45 years we shared many special moments, both happy and sad. However, Marilyn's smile was always at the ready and we certainly had many laughs together. Marilyn gifted our family with friendship, flowers and prayers and for that we will always be grateful. She taught us much about life and we will remember her final words. It was such a pleasure to have Marilyn and Cec in our home and it gives us comfort to know that they are together once again. Rest in peace. Love - Johanna, Ed, David, Jessica, Michael and Peter Hurd

Marilyn's final request seems so typical of the humble, caring woman she was. I had the honour of working as an EA in her classroom for a couple of years. She taught the students the advantage of humour at the same time letting them know boundaries . I learned so much from Marilyn about life and the importance of her use of humour at work and in life. I remember her telling me she rode a motorcycle with a big grin on her face . The kids would ask her how old she was and she would respond with signing " 100 yrs. old" ! We all laughed!! I am truly honoured to have known Marilyn and will try to carry out her final request as best I can.

Marilyn was a "very special" educator. Her quiet, reassuring personality, her profound love for the children she taught, her radiant smile and her willingness to work with severely challenged children made her a highly respected and loved member of our staff at Robarts. I will always remember her desire to take the most challenged children into her classroom where she simply wrapped her arms around them, loved them unconditionally and taught them so much more than the three "r's". As a fellow educator, I learned much from Marilyn about how to teach and love for which I am forever grateful. Gary
