Irene ‘Rene’ Gloria Wilson

October 20, 2017

1931 – 2017

“Rene” peacefully passed away in the Palliative Care Unit of Parkwood Institute on Friday, October 20th, 2017. Sincere thanks go to the professional, caring and dedicated staff at Parkwood. Rene was born on July 18th, 1931 in Toronto. She was the daughter of Ethel Exon and Carol (“Karl”) McLean. Rene was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Wilson, on August 11, 2002 and her sister Grace McLean on December 6th, 2016. She is survived by her brother Harold McLean (Audrey); son Kevin (Katy), and grandchildren William, Sophie and Kayla; and son Don (Tina) and granddaughters Toni, Joei, and Darci. Rene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her smile, laugh and demeanor uplifted her family and friends. Road trips with Bill to either Texas or Virginia or simply Sunday morning drives around Southwestern Ontario brought her immense joy. Her famous homemade gingerbread cookies touched both the hearts and tummies of many. She loved sports, particularly hockey, and was fiercely protective of her boys, as many referees came to learn. And she loved, more than anything, watching her grandchildren grow up. Friends will be received at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, October 26th, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Private family interment of ashes at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rene requested that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Palliative Care Unit of Parkwood Institute or to the Megan Holliday Memorial Fund.

Donny & Kevan you have my deepest condolences for the loss of your mother. I hope that you spend time thinking back to all the happy times. For my family we will always remember her for her very vocal support of the Oakridge hockey team. She will be missed but never forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Wilson family.

Kevin, Don & families: We have never met but my mother was Ev Hennessy, who travelled with Rene to Florida several times. After Mom passed in Jan. 2011, Rene finished off knitting a baby blanket which Mom had started. She was a fantastic knitter, not to mention baker extraordinaire! What I admired about Rene was she was always smiling and upbeat with a fantastic sense of humour. RIP Rene! You will be missed.

~ Carole Rawlings

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Love, the Wagners

~ Michael, Elizabeth, Abigail, and Zachary Wagner

One of my favorite quotes passed along to me comes from Rene, "Great minds think alike, fools rarely differ." Love it. Clearly she was a great woman who brought two great guys into the world who turned out to be great family men and great leaders. Well done!

~ Jodi and Tom Ramoino

Don, Tina and family: Don, so very sorry for the loss of your mother. Our thoughts, prayers and hugs are with all of you through this very difficult time. With love, Carolyn and Dennis xo
