Martin ‘Marty’ Alers
September 30, 2018
It is with profound sadness that the family of Martin Alers announces his passing on Sunday, September 30th, 2018, after a short but brave “battle-to-the-end” with cancer, with his wife Joanne beside him, at Victoria Hospital, at the age of 68. Adored and forever loved husband of Joanne for 34 years. Loving stepfather of Mike (Shellie), Andy (Alaina), and Jennifer. Cherished and fun-loving Grandpa to Justin, Brandan, Kristen, Spencer, Brady, Gavin, Kelly and Elliott, and Great-Grandpa to Kylie. Loving brother to Robert (Mary), and Marianne (Bill). Loved Uncle of Toni, Mark and Jay. Marty will be sadly missed by brother-in-law Richard (Mona); sisters-in-law Gail (Keith), Carol (Pete), and Barb; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and friends in Canada and the USA; and by his little cat, “Baby”. Predeceased by his parents, Robertus and Johanna Alers; nephew Willy Merks; mother-in-law Evelyn Bennett; and brother-in-law, Brian Bennett. Marty worked for the Ford Motor Company in Talbotville for 37 years, retiring in 2007. An avid golfer who enjoyed the City of London courses for many years, Marty also loved to garden and was a great landscaper. Known as ‘Party Marty’, he was the life of every party with his extraordinary dance moves! Visitation will be held on Friday, October 19th, 2018 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Marty are asked to consider the London Regional Cancer Program, Epilepsy Southwestern Ontario or the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex.

If ever someone were to ask me "which of your friends loved life the most? " my answer would have to be Marty. Marty always had a smile, a hug or a little "jig" of a dance move that would bring a smile to a frowning face. He encouraged me to not stress the little things, because we couldn't change some events, we just had to get through them and be happy with ourselves. Joanne and family I wish I could be there to give you all a huge hug. He will be missed.
