Gordon T. Schaus

December 13, 2018

Passed away at home, on Thursday, December 13, 2018, in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of the late Sheila (née Hill). Loving father of Catherine and Barbara McCarthy (Daniel). Dear grandfather of Joan and Gregory McCarthy. Gordon was born in Stratford; son of Emma and Theodore Schaus. He proudly served in the Air Force and Army during World War II. He moved to London, where he met Sheila. Gordon enjoyed many years as a teacher and principal in the London school system. In recent years, he and Sheila cherished trips to Florida and countless hours gardening together. Gordon had a passion for fishing, woodworking, and going to the track. In Sheila’s later years, he was a devoted caregiver. The family would like to thank Marcia and Greg for their care and friendship. Thanks as well to Dr. Mawji and his practice. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Gordon are asked to consider the London Food Bank.

Sympathy is extended to the Schaus Family in the passing of your father and grandfather Gordon. I have many fond memories of Sheila and Gordon visiting Donalda and Alec at the farm and at the lake. Gordon and Sheila always made my sweet pickless in the fall. I still have the heavy Dutch Oven they gave me for a wedding present. They will not be forgotten. Joan Chittick.

To Catherine and Barbara - Please accept my deepest sympathy in the loss of your Dad - such a kind, caring, generous man! I remember him and his brothers/families in Stratford; Arn and Edith were good friends of my parents. Definitely I recall many years, with Gordon as an amazing Props. Manager for our Earle Terry Singers Christmas concerts at Beal Tech. Of course, I knew your Mom as a member of the E.T.S. My caring thoughts are with you. Norma (Dunn) Clare

Catherine, I read of your dad's passing in the newspaper on the weekend and it saddened my heart. I know this is a difficult time for you all, but know that there are many people thinking of you praying for you. Your father positively influenced many, many people through the years. Enjoy the happy memories and the wonderful legacy he left behind.

Dear Catherine and Barbara, I am privileged to have known both of your wonderful parents. Your father was the first principal I had as a teacher and memories of his thoughtful guidance, advice and friendship have stayed with me since. He was an exceptional mentor. Donna and I would like to express our sincere condolences.

~ Barry Nunn

I remember both your parents from the 1960's and 1970's when my now ex-husband was taking classes at UWO in the summer and when he started to teach at Lucan Public School and the help and advise your father gave to Tom. So sorry to have to send my condolences because of his passing but such a pleasure they both gave to our lives.

We are very sorry to hear of Gordon's passing. He and Sheila were great friends for many years of Rob's late parents, John and Marion Tuer. Much fun was had in London, Ont and Vero Beach, Florida, and I'm sure there's a party going on somewhere right now.

Dear Barb, Catherine and Family, I'm sad you've lost your Dad, but what a long & full life he lived. I remember hearing many stories of his exploits in education (particularly as a principal) and his luck at the horse races! I will also always remember the Christmas Eves we spent together playing games at your house. I was always reluctant to leave the fun and friendship to head off to the candlelight service at church, but I always felt blessed to have the opportunity to know both your Mom and Dad and spend time with your family. I'm sorry we've lost touch and hope we can reconnect. Please know my thoughts are with you all.

Dear Catherine and Barbara and family, Our family visits to your family growing up are very fond memories. I loved seeing the relationship between our mother and your mother, best friends since childhood. Trips to London usually included a highly anticipated visit to "The Shaus house". Your father was smart, witty and kind. He always seemed truly interested in talking to Scott and I, no matter our age. A true gentleman - he will be sorely missed and fondly remembered. My thoughts are with you and your family, Sarah (Steele) Zgraggen
