Maxine E. Clarke (nee Hendry)

June 30, 2019

Maxine passed away on Sunday, June 30th, at Parkwood Institute, at the age of 82, with Don, her soulmate and loving husband of 30 years, by her bedside. In addition to Don, Maxine is also survived by her children, Cindy (Steve), Yvette (Jim), Mark (Theresa), and her step-daughter, Heather (Lorenzo). She was the adored Nana of granddaughter Ellice and step-grandsons, Patrick and Michael. She was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Edith, who immigrated from Britain in 1953.

Maxine enjoyed a wide variety of employment experiences at an impressive number of London businesses. She quickly mastered the switchboard at her first job at Bell to become a telephone operator. These skills were applied at the various secretarial and receptionist positions she held at Eaton’s, Somerville’s, London Life, Supertest and University Hospital, from where Maxine retired after 22 years of service at the main reception desk. Maxine enjoyed her many travels throughout Canada and the U.S. and her visits home to Barrow-in-Furness with Don, all while maintaining her “after” retirement part-time job in sales of quality cosmetic products while at the Bay downtown and Masonville.

We sincerely thank the palliative care specialists and staff at both Victoria Hospital and Parkwood for the gentle and attentive care given during these past several weeks, and for the previous long-time care and support from the medical and secretarial staff at the Oxford Medical Centre located at Chelsey Park.

Throughout her life, Maxine was a vibrant, sociable, caring and generous person, always putting others first. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

Cremation has taken place. A service of remembrance will be conducted on Wednesday, July 17th, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, with visitation one hour prior. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Maxine are asked to please consider Paws United.

It is with great sadness that I read this obituary to find out the not only Maxine but Tommy and Edith have passed. They were as close to me as my own family. Although I have not seen them since Betty's passing they have been in my thoughts. Family is so important and I regret not keeping more in touch. Gail or Jeff if you should read this, please get in touch so we can keep the family together. They will be greatly missed. Don my sincere condolences to you and your family. Love Sandra
