It is with broken hearts we announce the passing of Peter Nicolaas Johannes Ruyter. Peter passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his children and his beloved dog, Teddy, on Thursday, December 26, 2019, after a brief battle with cancer. Peter was born in Venhuizen, Netherlands to his late parents Gerard (1998) and Trijntje (2006) Ruyter. He is predeceased by his wife Betty Poels-Ruyter (2017), to whom he was married for 52 years. Loving father of Annette Ruyter (Nick) of Taiwan, Jeff Ruyter (Jehan) of Maple Ridge, BC, Petula Ruyter of Airdrie, AB and Luke Ruyter (Carrie) of Lucan, ON. Proud Opa of grandchildren: Jason, Eric, Andrew, Ashley, Kyle, Jeremiah, Mackenzie, Olivia, Jaxson; and two great-grandchildren, Lillith and Scarlett. He is predeceased by brother John (Vera) Ruyter (1970) and sister Margaret Zwaan (2009). Beloved brother of Trudy Taylor, Els (Jan) Jorritsma, Nick (Diane) Ruyter, Jerry Ruyter, Afra (Mike) Ruyter, Tony (Elizabeth) Ruyter, Hans (Janice) Ruyter, Kees (Marilyn) Ruyter, Henk (Cathy) Ruyter, Gitta (Rick) Palmer, Marijke (Ted) Garden and William (Karen) Ruyter. Sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He brought love and laughter to everyone. A Celebration of Peter’s Life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to LHSF – The Baker Centre for Pancreatic Cancer, Humane Society London & Middlesex or any act of love or kindness will be a fitting memorial to Peter.
