Peacefully at Westmount Gardens, with her daughters at her side, on Saturday, December 28, 2019, in her 91st year. Beloved wife of the late Joaquim (2015). Loving mother of Zaida (Jim) Suraci and Julie Vilaca. Proud Vovo to Gregory Suraci (Alyss Fougere) and Julia (Michael) Hager. Will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Portugal and South Africa. The family would like to thank the staff at Westmount Gardens for their exceptional compassionate care. Private family interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Maria are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

Julie, Zaida and family, I am very sorry for your loss. Tia Lena and Tio Jack were an important part of my childhood. I will never forget them. They were more than friends to my parents; they were our family in Canada. My thoughts are with all of you at this trying time.
We are all so sorry for your loss. She was a lovely person and we all have great memories of her. She will be missed but never forgotten. Our prayers and thoughts are with you all.

Zaida e Julita e restante famÃlia,Sinto muito pela perda da vossa querida mae. Fiquei muito triste em saber desta notÃcia triste. A mais de um Ano que ela deixou de me contactar e logo fiquei pensando o pior. Sinto muita falta das conversar com ela e da presença dela e do Jack. Uma Senhora que mereceu a pena conhecer,uma vizinha uma amiga uma pessoa extraordinária. Os meus sinceros pesames a toda a familia em especial Zaida e Julinha. Que sua alma descanse em paz agora junto do Jack nos bracos do pai celeste.
