James ‘Jim’ Timothy Lapthorne
April 19, 2020
January 5, 1949 – April 19, 2020
Peacefully and surrounded by love, after a brief battle with cancer, James Timothy Lapthorne passed away in his 72nd year. Survived by his children Danielle and Jim, and their mother Ann Marie Fitz-Gerald. Beloved brother of David and Mary Jane Lapthorne, of London, and Brian and Carolyn Lapthorne, of Calgary. Special Uncle Jim to many nieces and nephews. Jim was a longtime employee of 3M Canada and made many friends during his time there, as well as through his involvement with the CAW Local 27. In his retirement, he loved to spend time with his kids on the golf course, or just enjoying a good ‘burg. Always one for a good laugh, an old story or a whistle and a song, he didn’t want you to be sad, so: “keep your chin up and keep your powder dry!” Jim wished to extend his deepest thanks to his sister and brother-in-law, Marrie and David Fullerton, for all their support over the years. Thank you to Queens Village for Seniors, Jim’s home for the past 15 years, where the staff and residents became not only dear friends but family. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, with information printed in the London Free Press. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice, who took incredible care of Jim in his final days.

Danielle and Jim we are so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. We hold so many wonderful memories of you guys and your dad. Love and hugs to you both.
My father, Howard Walker, was Jim's table mate at Queens Village. Jim was a thoughtful and kind man who was generous with his time. My mother was confined to the 2nd floor and my dad was lonely. Jim scooped up Howie with a smile and a "man's humor" making each mealtime something to enjoy. We shared many pleasurable conversations in the sunshine on the porch which I will always hold dear. The Beck vs Wheable rivalry brought a lot of laughs especially when he appeared in his team attire. Glorious moments to cherish! I know my dad would have been pleased with Jim watching his beloved golf sitting in his chair. Thanks for sharing Jim with us. Your father was a treasure!
Dave/Mary Jane Brian/Carolyn We were so sorry to hear of your loss. We didn't know your brother Jim but it sure sounded like he was a full of fun guy. Thinking of you all at this time when all things are even more difficult than usual. Our thoughts & prayers are with you. Regards & blessings. Phyl & Keith Johnston
I am so sorry for the loss of your Dad, Danielle. My condolences to you and your family. Thinking of you.
Hi David and Brian. I am thinking of you in your time of loss. I coached Jim at Lady Beck summer park and Little League Football when he was 12 years old and he was the only one who could catch the 40 yard bombs of Don Luce. He was a good fastball team mate as well.
As someone who competed with Jim on the football field at Beck, the fastball diamond at Stronach and the bowling alley at Fleetway, I got the opportunity to see what a natural athlete he was. He loved to compete but loved being part of a team even more. We have some great memories from the numerous fastball tournaments and the after bowling social gatherings. You will be missed but remembered by all those who knew you Jim. RIP Bob & Terri
Dave, Mary Jane and family. My sincerest condolences on Jim's passing. He was the senior quarterback when I was playing junior. Back-to-back city champions. he was a good one. Always a Sir Adam Beck Spartan. George Keeler
Dear Danielle and Jimmy. I know you must be missing your dad terribly. I miss him ever day. from my very first day at Queens Village, Jim looked after me and pushed me in my chair wherever I needed to go. his kindness and sprit will stay with me always. I miss our weekend cribbage games very much. he was very competitive. Danielle, your golf games with Jim were the joy of his life; the way you took over when he became ill, was a great source of pride to him. he never had to worry about his appointments and treatments...he'd say "Danielle will know" Be good to each other and maintain your Keg dinners. that would make him very happy;to see Jimbo "eat everythging that wasn't nailed down". Danielle & Jim, My deepest condolences to you at this time. I will miss our visits, his stories about how close golf games were against Danielle, how excited he was when he was going to be going to the Keg for supper with you, and the look in his eye when he would see a Cinnabon. He was such a genuine individual with a heart of gold.
