P.M. passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2020 in London, Ontario. P.M. is survived by his loving wife, Saramma; his children, Santha & (predeceased) Sabu Varghese, Sajan & Rayvey George; and six grandchildren: Deepa Varghese, Divya Varghese, Dilan Varghese, Michav George, Seth George and Isa George. His large extended family included three dear brothers and four sisters. He was everyone’s beloved Kunjoottichayan. Born on July 6, 1931 in Kollad, Kerala, India, P.M. had a long distinguished career as an Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of Western Ontario, and then in retirement, as a lay pastor in the Oneida United Church of Canada. A scholar, theologian, academic, professor, teacher and preacher, P.M. cultivated a rich inner life that blessed countless family members and friends in Canada, the United States, India and the world. A funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 at 12:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Registration is required to attend the visitation and visitation/service.

PM was a trusted and valued friend for many years. His insights and wisdom enriched the lives of those who studied with him as students; his deep faith nourished those who knew him later in life as a preacher and pastor. The world is a better place because of PM's contributions. Sara, I'm so glad we were able to connect again after our years away from London. Dear Saramme, Santhe, Sajan, To get through this sad time is very challenging; memories may even trigger your sorrow as will the anniversaries. We pray to the Lord to give you the strength, courage and wisdom to go this sad phase. Hold on to the good memories and 'time' will heal you.
Being known, Dr. P.M. George as a true friend for the last 48 years including his family back in Kollad, Kottayam, where we are coming from, we miss him a lot. We pray for his soul. Our thoughts and sincere prayers are with his beloved wife, Saramma and their children, Santha and Sajan during this difficult time.
P.M.'s time spent at Oneida United Church community of faith was appreciated by members who have now passed, as well as others. He always said he was the "real Indian". My mother, the late Bernice Chrisjohn, enjoyed his services because she could hear him so well. Condolences to the family.
