David ‘Dave’ James Rainey
November 6, 2020
January 9, 1938 – November 6, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family of Dave Rainey announce his peaceful passing on the morning of Friday, November 6, 2020, with his wife and daughter Kathleen at his side, at Victoria Hospital. He was a very loving and devoted husband to Joan for 59 years. Left to mourn are his beloved wife Joan and children: Kathleen (LeRoy) Meatherall, Susan (Timothy) Daher and David (Ines) Rainey Jr. Proud Poppa of Kyle, Sheina, Heather and Henry. Missed by sister, Patricia Wadman; nephew, Edward Wadman; and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by parents, Margaret and John Rainey; brother, Jack Rainey and wife Dorothy; brother-in-law, Edward Wadman; nephews, Thomas and James Wadman; and niece, Margaret Anne Wadman.
Dave worked for Grand & Toy most of his adult life in downtown Toronto. When the new towers were being built, he climbed floor after floor to sell office furniture and supplies. He loved meeting people and to hear their stories; he never forgot a name. Dave was a very proud member of “The Tuesday Group” and the fine men he worked with, especially his friend and boss, Jack Booth.
Dave loved all sports. He played badminton, baseball, curling, golf, swimming, and was an “armchair coach” to many teams. Dave was also an avid fisherman at Six Mile Lake.
Many thanks to Shannon, Joanna, Deb, Johnson and Peter Wong, and all the wonderful nurses and staff on C6 at Victoria Hospital, who gave Dave such kind and caring attention. Their kindness to him and his family is very much appreciated.
Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dave are asked to consider the Canadian Cancer Society, The Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.

I have very fond memories of working with Dave as another Grand & Toy downtown salesman . I also have good memories of our golf games and our yearly Christmas lunches . My deepest sympathies to all the family.

Thinking of you all at this sad time!
Dear Joan and family, We are so sorry to hear of Dave's passing. Olivia, Liza, Duane and I have so many lovely memories of our Valleycrest days. We were just reminiscing about Halloween and Mrs. Rainey's cookies. The girls spent much time in the garden with Dave where he let them eat his wonderful cherry tomatoes off of the vine! You were such good neighbours to us and we will always remember you both fondly. Please know that we are thinking of you, with much love, Terri Penney
