Joan Audrey Read

January 17, 2021

On Sunday, January 17, 2021, the light went out in Joan’s eyes. She passed away with family by her side as she began a happier journey. Joan was born and raised in Tillsonburg, before moving to London. She had many interests and experiences in her 74 years. Perhaps her most cherished time was that spent with her family in Long Point. The family cottage was Joan’s place to truly enjoy life; a weekend sanctuary for over 50 years, and the place where she spent time caring for her late parents, Bill and Florine Sinden. She could always be walking the beach barefoot, sunning with a book, and joyfully laughing at the kitchen table over a game of Skip-Bo or having spirited conversations during an evening bonfire. Joan always took a moment to observe the wonder of a full moon rising out of Lake Erie, while joining in the singing of “I see a moon and the moon sees me”. Joan was loyal to her family, standing by her late husband Derek Read. Her consult will be missed by her sons Kevin Trotter (Kristin) and Dean Brenner. Cherished stepmother of Steve Read (Tracy) and Robert Read (Kate). Loving Grandma of Kamille, Karis and Hannah. Dear sister of Carol Davis (Ed). “AJ” was survived by her nieces Pam Naujokaitis and Vikki Anello, and her great-nephews Mitchel, Kyle, Nick and Alex. She will be missed by her extended family and dear friends including Angie and Mike Lumley. Our family is grateful for the caring staff and residents of Chartwell Royalcliffe Retirement Residence. You were like family during a significant transition in her life. To the staff at peopleCare Oakcrossing, your compassion provided her dignity as the twilight came. The best Celebration of Life will take place at later date for this amazing woman. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Joan are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex.
