Jessica Marie LaFreniere
January 17, 2021
She was a free spirit and an avid traveler who explored every corner of the globe. With an eye on her next adventure, she wore flip-flops year-round, even in the snow. She spent months at a time in Thailand, rock climbing and relishing time spent with friends at local bars and tiny shops. She loved bridge, stand-up comedy, Jeopardy, the NFL and playing the lottery. A friend said it perfectly; she was a gentle flower with those whom she loved and she needed a warning label for everyone else. After a courageous fight with cancer, Jessica passed away unexpectedly at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at the age of 45. She was the beloved daughter of Gail and the late Don LaFreniere (2005). Loving sister of Matthew and Michael and his wife Bojana. Beloved aunt of Mila and Sasha. Jessica will be deeply missed by her aunts, uncles, extended family and many friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at a later date once the COVID-19 restrictions have lifted. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jessica are asked to consider UNICEF Thailand or Covenant House Toronto. Jess, we will miss you very much.

I didn't know Jess well, but the times we met, she impressed me as a brave, strong, intelligent person. Independent and adventurous. Our future. She was the best of us and I'm so sorry she is gone.

I had the great pleasure of working with Jess a few years back when she was at TD. She came so highly recommended from her managers at Coreio. I was told I'd be crazy if I didn't hire her. They were right! She was an amazing, strong and brilliant woman and I enjoyed every minute I had working with her. We had our share of hard times on the project but Jess always kept us thinking positive. "I've seen this all before" she'd always say. "We'll get there" Hearing her stories of traveling the world in her "work to live" mentality was such an inspiration to me. We'd talk for hours about her travel and how she manages a career and her commitment to taking time off to see the world. It set me on a path to refocus my own life and how I balance work/life. If not for covid restrictions I would be traveling the world right now because of Jess. The impact she had on me and our whole team at TD can't be measured in a few lines of condolences. I only hope that her closest friends and family know how much she meant to us even if we only got to know her for a few years. Love you forever Jess. Xxxooo. Angela.
My deepest condolences. I met Jess in grade 10 and we quickly became great friends. She taught me a lot over the years, but the one thing that always stuck with me was I didn't have to do anything I didn't want to do..Every time I think of her my heart smiles. Rest in sweet peace my friend..xo
