James Edward Ringer

Jim Ringer, 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at his home with his loving wife, Lilas, by his side.  He was born in Hamilton, Ontario on March 12, 1922.

 Jim was the dear father of Janet Barbara Truesdale (David) of Charleston, Illinois and Judith Ann “Judi” Farrelly (Steve) of New Orleans, Louisiana.  He was the proud grandfather of Erin Gillespie (Matt), James “Jim” Truesdale (Teresa) and James “Kirk” Farrelly (April).  He was the great-grandfather of Madisson and Jacob Gillespie, Lilas “Lily” Ann Truesdale, Easton James and Patrick Ringer Farrelly.

 Jim was predeceased by his parents Edward and Gladys Ringer, his brother Kenneth, great uncle and aunt Samuel and Lillian Ringer.

 He served his country during World War II as a member of the Canadian Navy stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  He was a tool and die maker by trade.  He returned to Hamilton where he and Lilas were married on February 23, 1946.  Jim built their home in Waterdown, where he and Lilas raised their daughters and were active in the community.

 Jim was employed by Ford Motor Company in Oakville.  In 1965, he became Quality Control Manager of a new Ford assembly plant in Lima, Peru, South America and was later promoted to Plant Manager.  While living in Peru, Jim and Lilas had the opportunity to travel throughout South America, Mexico and Europe.  Jim returned to Canada and settled in London and was employed at Ford in St. Thomas until his retirement in 1980. 

 Jim and Lilas continued to travel throughout Canada, the United States and Europe and enjoyed cruises to the Caribbean, Panama Canal, Mexico, Cuba and the St. Lawrence Seaway.  They spent many winters in Florida as “Snow Birds”. 

 Jim was an avid golfer.  He renovated and redecorated houses and moved often after each project was completed.  He also enjoyed making his own wine, curling and shooting pool.  He loved to read and completed crossword puzzles daily. 

Jim was a self-made, hard-working, honest and loving man.  His family and friends have many wonderful memories to cherish of “Jim”, “Dad” and “Grandpa Jim”.

Cremation has taken place. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Jim are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the London Regional Cancer Program.
