Daniel ‘Dan’ Francis O’Meara
March 1, 2021
After a short illness, at Victoria Hospital on Monday, March 1, 2021, Daniel Francis O’Meara left us. He will always be remembered by Patricia Marie ‘Trish’ O’Meara; and sons, Jamie and Sean. Dan was the son of Winnifred and Steve O’Meara; and brother of Steve, Jack, Mary Lou, Mike and Pat. Anyone who knew Dan knew of his great love of horses. He was riding them by age three and not many years after, he was training them to do elaborate tricks (not an easy feat!). He would often ride his horse, Tarzan, to class at St. Joseph School on Wilson Avenue in London West. By the age of eleven, Dan was his own boss, running O’Meara Riding Stables on Riverside Drive. As an adult, this entrepreneurial spirit led him to start his own real estate company, and he would become president of the London and St. Thomas Real Estate Board in 1985. He was a country boy at heart, and loved raising horses at the family farm, just north of London, and roughhousing with his many beloved dogs. The farm – where he taught his sons life essentials like knife throwing, stilt walking and the art of slingshot – was the jumping off point for innumerable day trips to Lake Huron, often to the soundtrack of another lifelong favourite of his, Elvis Presley. Dan was truly one of a kind. He was creative, thoughtful, kind and loyal. He was an independent thinker with a profound sense of fairness, who always stuck up for the little guy. He was also a person of great generosity and would give anyone the shirt off his back…or perhaps, even an organ, like he did with typical selflessness when he donated one of his kidneys to save the life of a loved one. He did everything with his signature Dan O’Meara sense of humour, usually with a splash of Irish mischief and a twinkle in his amazingly bright blue eyes. It goes without saying, he will be missed greatly by all of those whose lives he touched. Dan’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Dr. Chang and his team in the Cardiac Care Unit at Victoria Hospital for their outstanding care. There will be no visitation or service at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate and welcome those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dan, to consider The Salvation Army Centre of Hope (281 Wellington Street, London, ON N6B 2L4).

My thoughts go out to the entire O'Meara family. Mr O'Meara played a key role in many of my favorite childhood memories. He taught me to ride a horse, shoot a gun, and helped us to clean and cook an unfortunate rabbit. When I've taught some of those skills to my own kids, I always remember Mr. O'Meara's kindness and patience. He won't be forgotten.
My deepest condolences to Dan's family, such a sweet soul, will miss his friendly face and kind spirit.

My deepest condolences on your loss. I was not lucky enough to meet Mr O'Meara, but I hold his son Jamie in high esteem, and if the saying about the apple not falling from the tree holds any credence, I am certain that a truly fine person has passed. I send my warmest wishes to the bereaved at this most difficult of times. â¤ï¸ðŸ™ðŸ½
