It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Walter on March 1, 2021, at the age of 84 years. He died peacefully and gently at University Hospital in London, Ontario. He was loved and will be deeply missed by his partner, Lorraine Lefebvre (Lorrie); his brother-in-law, Dennis Lefebvre (Judy); his nephews, Christopher (Melanie) and Allan (LeeAnne); his great nephew, Nathan Lefebvre; and his great niece, Jordanne Lefebvre. He is survived by his children, Andrew and Laura and their families; his sister, Linda Penny (Jerry) and her family. Walter worked as a photographer at the Sault Star in the 1960s and for Community and Social Services in Gravenhurst in the 1980s. He was a member of the London Horticultural Society in the 1990s and a long-standing member of the Humanist Association of London and Area. The family would like to thank the ICU staff at University Hospital for their kindness and compassionate care. Expressions of sympathy donations in memory of Walter may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Cremation has taken place.

I got to know Howard a bit at HALA through my father, Don Hatch. So difficult to grieve with pandemic restrictions preventing mutual support in person. My condolences to his family...
I`ve always felt very comfortable with Walter. I loved his sense of humour and relaxed charm about him. Being with him was easy. I`ll greatly miss our wonderful conversations where differing views were always embraced. Paul Therriault
Lorrie, I'm very sorry to know that Walter is no longer with us. I will certainly miss him. I enjoyed getting to know him when he was on the board of the Humanist Association of London and Area, and since then, getting together with him from time to time over a beer at the grad club. He was always interesting to talk with about philosophy, politics, and world events. We also had in common the fact that we both grew up in Sault Ste. Marie (although over a decade apart)! Thinking about you and your family during this time of bereavement.

Dear Lorrie, I offer my sincere and warm condolences to you and your family. Walter was a 'good guy'. I enjoyed his non-nonsense, friendly, loving, and unassuming ways.
Lorrie and family, My deep sympathy to you on Walter's passing. I was fortunate to know Walter through HALA meetings and always found him to be affable, good humoured and kind. He was generous with his time and happy to assist on the Board. We enjoyed talking about our dogs and compared notes about their antics. I will remember Walter as a very fine man.
Lorrie, My warmest sympathy to you and your family. Wallie was a great neighbor and friend. I appreciated his measured humour and enjoyed our chats of growing up in the Sault.
