Stanley ‘Stan’ Askew

April 6, 2021

Peacefully passed on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, Stan, in his 86th year. Beloved husband of Barb. Dear dad of Lori and Edward, Linda and Gordon, Lisa and Lynn; and grandpa of Hannah and Jessica. Survived by his brother, Grant (Angela); twin brother, Henry (Nancy); and sisters, Barbara Sweet and Mary Lawson; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. A private family graveside service will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Stan worked for most of his career with the London Board of Education at Arthur Ford Public School as the charge custodian from the school’s opening in 1963, to his retirement in 1992. Many times he was recognized and rewarded for his outstanding work ethic and the contributions he made to the school and community. Stan spent many enjoyable hours in his workshop after his retirement, creating many projects for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Stan are asked to consider the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Stan will be always fondly remembered for happily and capably working with us in the kitchen at Gatherings, for being the guy that remained after any function tidying and cleaning, leaving everything better than it was found. He had a way about him that made one feel really he appreciated your company. His faith was exhibited in his willing service to others.

As a passed student at Arthur Ford, I will always remember Mr. Askew's L-O-N-G stride across the open field as he was headed home. He seemed like such a giant of a man. Always kind and ready to say "hello", he will remain one of my finest memories of public school. So sorry for your loss. A very hard-working and caring man.

Stan was always a cheerful helpful worker in whatever project he was on. We enjoyed him at gatherings where he displayed his faith in getting everything tidied up. His projects for his family also showed some much love and caring. My sympathy goes to his wife Barb and the family. May God be with you in your loss.

I had the privilege of working with Stan for eleven years while I was the school secretary at Arthur Ford School. The office always was a happier place when Stan entered the room. He was a great man in every way. Staff, students and the community benefited because of the outstanding care Stan took in looking after the School. Even after he retired he was active in the annual plant sale to support the Arthur Ford Nature Park. My deepest sympathy goes out to his dear wife Barb and daughters. Cherishing my happy memories.

Our heartfelt condolences to the family. My kids and I will always cherish the fond memories we have of "Uncle" Stan, a giant of a man in character and heart. So friendly and always ready with a cheerful hello and willingness to help others. For years he was our Go-To-Guy for any equipment needed for the Sunday School picnic. He trained so many young ones how to vacuum properly in his helpful, generous way. We are further saddened we cannot be with you at this time to share in your loss, but know that we are thinking of you and will remember him warmly. Troy and family

Barb and Family, Our condolences go out to all of you. Stan truly was an icon in the neighbourhood. We will miss his infectious smile, his energetic wave and hearty hello from across the road, and his fabulous spring gardening sweaters. Jen, John & Sydney
