William ‘Bill’ Arbing
August 4, 2021
On a beautiful sunny August morning, with a cool breeze blowing thru the door and the cardinals singing in the trees….our beloved Bill passed away, at the age of 75, surrounded by his loving family, in his favourite place…home. A wonderful husband to Lynn for 55 years, proud Dad to his son Jeff and wife Trish, and adoring Grandad to Jarret and Sarah…all the loves of his life. Big brother to sisters….Barb (Norm) McIntrye, Gayle (Gerry) Farr, Heather (Ross) Spettigue, and Carol Smith. Uncle Bill to many nieces and nephews. We all have so many special memories of our life with Bill, whether we were family, friends, or neighbours. He touched all our lives. Bill started his career as a police officer in Windsor, earning awards in bravery, then as an instructor at the Ontario Police College, and later working across the province with the Ministry of the Solicitor General. Bill loved sports, from baseball, to running the Ottawa Marathon, as well as biking and he loved golf. His other love was cars….our family always teased him that we couldn’t count the number of vehicles he’d owned over the years. Of course that led to his delivering cars for dealerships and being so good at customer service that it made him a favourite with everyone, and developed some wonderful friendships. A special thank you to Dr. Lauren Gurland and Bill’s nurse, Jerome for their outstanding care and kindness, as well as the incredible staff on the oncology floor at Victoria Hospital. A private family Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. The family would appreciate if you would share your fondest memories of Bill and any condolences below.
Bill will be in our hearts forever.

Dear Arbing Family, I have so many memories of visiting your house on Rankin Street in Windsor. I remember Bill as a happy and affable person who loved his family and served his community as a police officer. He was funny, warm, kind, and caring. I remember Heather's first car, I think it was a Valiant and Bill being so excited for Heather. I hope all your memories of Bill as a husband, father, brother, grandad, and uncle remain forever in your hearts. My deepest condolences to all of you during this difficult time. Moe
Bill truly was one of the most genuine people you could meet. I was very fortunate to share many golf games with Bill and when someone was standing over a birdie putt you could always count on Bill to say, " Come on make it!" Many great memories and he will be greatly missed. Kathy and I send our sincere condolences to you Lynn and the entire Arbing family during this difficult time.
I was fortunate to meet Bill at Robert Q's Airbus, it was immediately evident that Bill was a kind, genuine, caring person. His welcoming kindness came so naturally to him that immediately one felt an up lift in ones' day. I respected Bill not only for his genuine kindness but also for his knowledge, intelligence and life experiences. Even when Bill joined Greenhill's and took the club championship in his first year no one could be upset. To Lynn and the family my condolences. All who had contact with Bill are very fortunate, this world is a better place because Bill was in it.
Gayle My condolences to you and your family. I know how close you were to your brother Bill. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Pauline
Dear Lynn, our deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your dear husband, Bill. He was truly a wonderful person whose kindness and positive nature inspired those around him.
Deepest Condolences to Lynn and the entire Arbing family. Eleven years ago, It was our good fortune to meet Bill and Lynn in Florida on the 1st tee. The four of us became fast friends and every year Gary and I were thrilled that they were returning for their two month stay in Palm Coast. As we all know, Bill was truly a special man. He was warm, friendly,, fun, caring, kind, considerate and he knew how to address a serious situation without adding fuel. The world is a lonelier place without Bill. We hold our precious memories in our hearts and will keep smiling as we recall all of our many happy times together. Rest In Peace, dear friend. You are missed.
I remember playing slow pitch with Bill in Aylmer over 30 years ago. He would gently send the ball to the plate for half of the inning, and then pound the same ball out of the park in the next half. He was always a kind and inclusive teammate. Deepest condolences. Don Marcou
A true gentleman. Sincere condolences from the Friyia family.
I had the pleasure of knowing and working with Bill through Lexus of London. Bill stood tall not just in height but in character. A positive, kind and caring man. Bill would assist as a chase driver when I was on delivery to a guests home out of town always a professional. He would talk fondly of family, golf, travelling to Florida with a zest for life. You will be missed, My condolences to the Arbing family.
Bill Arbing (Uncle Bill) will be sadly missed by our family. We always looked forward to our visits and will truly miss his kindness, sense of humour and all the great stories he would share with us. We had the honour of having him as master of ceremonies at our wedding and, needless to say, he did an amazing job. There were many golf games over the years with the family that we often reminisce about, especially the weekly twilight games with my mom and dad (Jerry and Mag) at Cresthaven and the family tournaments in Little Britain. Also being part of the police services, Bill was always there as a mentor to provide guidance that was greatly appreciated. He excelled at everything he did and always managed to make friends along the way. Most importantly, he was an amazing husband, father, grandad and uncle and we are all better people because of him.
Uncle Bill and Aunt Lynn and Jeff lived next door to gram and pip when I was young, growing up in Windsor. It meant a lot to me having him in my life. He was a wonderful policeman and always very proud to serve. Jean-Paul and I send our deepest condolences to everyone. Uncle Bill will be remembered very fondly and with love 💖 -Linda and JP
Dear Lynn and Family..years of memories flowed through my mind when I read your e-mail. I'm so sorry for your loss. The final chapter has now been written for both of us. My sincere condolences to you and your family. Thinking of you, Karen
My sincerest condolences to the Arbing family. Seeing Bill at the dealership always put a smile on my face. I remember the time my sister and I had Bill take us to the airport for a trip and chatting with him about his career, travels, family, etc. He even picked up our friend from the airport when they came to visit from Australia a few February's ago during a -20 cold snap. Bill made such an impression on our friend and his warm welcome to Canada. He spoke so highly of his family and was so genuine. I know everyone will miss his cheerful and positive energy and know anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Bill will remember that. My thoughts and sympathies are with the Arbing family.
How ironic life is when yet again a few short days ago a person comes into your mind. You wonder how they are: where they are? You are then updated in this fashion. What words can fill that immediate void? Yes, condolences and sympathy are offered. It has been almost three decades since I had any involvement after meeting Bill during my secondment to O.P.P. Headquarters during Bill's time with the Ministry of The Solicitor General. Time leaves acknowledging the profound respect and admiration for the man during and after that time. Thanks for the privilege. Rest in peace.
Lynn ,our deepest sympathies on your loss. As a new Highland members we were greeted with Bill's wave and infectious smile - just a great welcome. Our thoughts are with you and your family.
To Lynn and entire Arbing family In 1966, I was an 11 year old boy who wanted to play for the Detroit Tigers. I played for the Mustangs that summer, and Bill was my coach. He was there for the kids, and was respected by the entire team. Now.. I didn't make the Tigers, but Im not sure that that was Bill's fault. Lol I did however, become a 37 year police officer, so that has to count for something. Bill's life was not one wasted, and for this the family and friends must be so very proud. God speed. Leigh Comartin
Dear Lynn, Jeff and family, Bill was a wonderful man, more like an Uncle to my sister and I than just one of our Dad's friends. I hope they meet up and play a few rounds of golf in the great hereafter. Many of my family's fondest memories, the police picnics on Boblo, the softball games, Sunday's at Michael's Tavern, the fireworks, even my Mom and Dad's wedding day, you and Bill were part of. My deepest heartfelt condolences on your loss. With Love, Krissy Bode-Beneteau (Carol and Frank's Daughter)
To the Arbing Family, keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Bill was a driver at our dealership always professional and a true gentleman.

Working at Highland I had the good fortune of meeting many great people. None of those people however are more kind, gracious and genuine as Bill Arbing. I got to know Mr. Arbing a little bit over a few years and every time you saw him, your day got a little bit better. He was a true gentleman and someone I had a tremendous amount of respect for. I hope to grow up and treat people with the same amount of class and dignity as him. Condolences to Lynn and family in this difficult time. R.I.P Mr. Arbing
Dear Lynn, Jeff and family, I was just talking with mom (Carol Deslippe) and she told me about dear Bill, I'm so sorry, I liked Mr Arbing so much! My parents Carol and Frank were such good friends and I was lucky to see and hear of the good times they had! I was thinking of the house on Rankin and the fireworks party at Lynn's moms and step-dad every year!!! So much fun to eat hot dogs and tell ghost stories and the high light, seeing the fireworks!! I respected and cared about Mr Arbing, to my sister and I he was a kind gentle giant! I hope all the memories of the good times give you peace, please know you are in my thoughts, take care!!!!!!
We were so sorry to hear the sad news. Always a true gentleman who we knew from golfing at Greenhills. Had a good sense of humour & a great laugh. Lynn & family so sorry for your loss. 🙠R.I.P. Bill
Our condolences. I knew Bill as one of the best Slopitch players in Aylmer with the Police College team in the 70s and 80s and when they folded we "lured" him to the Teachers team with a promise of only a good time and he was a joy to watch play and even more so a caring friend and gentleman. So many good memories for us and so many more I'm sure for his family. Thanks Bill.
Our condolences to you and your family Lynn. We were saddened to hear of the passing of Bill. Warm regards, Tom and Darlene
We respectfully offer our heartfelt condolences to Bill's family. I (Phil) am truly honoured to have known Bill and I am deeply indebted to him. As a team leader, Bill hired me as a seconded officer at the Ontario Police College. His outstanding devotion, dedication, commitment, ethics and professionalism (hopefully) rubbed off on me during his excellent instruction, leadership, and skilled mentorship. Bill was both a true gentleman and a policeman's policeman. His intervention in my life resulted in not only a rewarding police career but 29 extra years of service within the walls of the Ontario Police College. Thank you, Bill - for a great "gig". Rest in peace Sir.
Like Phil and Wendy, I share the respect given him as he was responsible in many ways for the future shape of my career. You were a great inspiration for me and I will remember you always. Rest in Peace.
Dear Lynn and family I was so so sorry to here of Bill's passing. It was a pleasure and honour to serve you and Bill while I was at Greenhills working in the back shop. My dad always said the integrity of a man can be felt in his handshake! Bill had a wonderful strong handshake, so I knew the first time I met him he was one of the good guys....I never really had the opportunity to get to know Bill on a personal level, but I did see him over the years at Highland Country Club. I knew Bill as a co-worker at the Ontario Police College. His contributions to police training were enormous. He shared his many policing skills with students from throughout the Province all eager to learn from his many experiences as an officer in Windsor. He was the real deal and was a favourite among College students who were fortunate to be groomed by him.

Bill was one of my Sergeants while employed by the Windsor Police Department during the 70's. We trained together on Windsor's first Tac Team (SWAT). He was great to be around and always fair. Over the years I have heard of his love of golf and was looking forward to the day we would hit the course together. Rest In Peace dear brother you will be greatly .missed.
I have known and respected many fine men during my many years. Few, if any, were the equal of Bill Arbing. Bill was a man of rock-solid integrity, the highest of ethical standards, the consummate professional during his multi-faceted career beginning with the Windsor Police Service, and Bill possessed a love and dedication to and for his family which included all who were in his extended family, Other than being in his home, Bill could be found on a golf course, almost a second home for Bill and he was one fine golfer. Thanksgiving and Christmas were special times for the Arbing family. My wife Heather, one of Bill's sisters and I were welcomed into his home on those occasions and those wonderful times will be etched in my memory. Bill was a man whose greatness was his goodness. We have lost a giant of a man but wonderful memories of Bill will provide comfort at this sad time.
I worked with Bill for many years at one of the dealerships he delivered cars for. I always enjoyed our conversation about his wife, children and family. He was so incredibly kind and thoughtful. Bill will be greatly missed. My prayers are with his friends and family.
My heartfelt condolences to all of Bill's loved ones. Good fortune brought me to know this genuine, warm hearted gentleman during my days at Lexus of London. A fond memory of his kindness - there was a scheduling issue that resulted in Bill driving down to Windsor from London to fetch me from a client's home on a New Year's Eve! Before getting me home I time for a family celebration, we had many laughs over his wonderful stories. Rest easy, Sir.

Sorry to hear of Bill's passing. I worked with Bill at Windsor Police and enjoyed his instruction at the Ontario Police College. In my 42 years of policing Bill was truly an example of what makes a Very Good Police Officer. He practiced and taught pride with knowledge. Bill served Windsor PS and O.P.C with dignity . Well Done.
Like others who have written, I too had the pleasure of meeting Bill as a driver at a dealership. I enjoyed many trips to the Detroit airport with him. I always admired his efficiency, his courtesy, and most of all, his kindness. He treated everyone the same - with respect and care. A great listener, Bill was always happy to engage in any conversation. He was modest - but oh how he loved to talk about his family - his first love! Bill was also happy to share tales of golf and travel and policing. I am grateful to have met him and shared those journeys with him. A gentle giant whose impact was as big as his heart. Blessings to the Arbing family - thank you for sharing Bill with so many.

The Arbing Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Bill was one of my drivers while I was working at a car dealership in London. He was such a ray of sunshine, he could make anybody smile when he walked into the room.
