Joanne Degg-Martin

March 28, 2022

It is with a broken heart that we announce the passing of our beautiful, kind and full of life, Joanne Degg-Martin of London, Ontario on March 28, 2022. Joanne was diagnosed with cancer three months ago and endured a 21-day fight in the ICU at Victoria Hospital after contracting septic shock.

Dearly beloved wife of 40 years to Scott. Loving mother of Shawn, Dallas and Summer. Cherished grandmother to Naomi. Treasured mother-in-law to Karly and Lindsay. Loved sister to Mike, Bill, Lynne and Andrea. Admired daughter-in-law to Zelda. She was the adored daughter of the late Kenneth and Pamela. Joanne will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family, friends, co-workers and customers.

Co-workers and customers at the LCBO adored Joanne’s upbeat personality over the last 22 years, making a simple wine run a fulsome experience, with Joanne often having customers lining up just so they could speak with her.

Joanne will be remembered by her incredible shoulder shimmy dance moves, her loving texts that ended with 50 kiss and heart emojis, the way she teared up watching every movie and TV show, how she would sing along to every song even if she didn’t know the words, her incredible money saving tactics and the way she lit up at a good sale, how she always had a kind word to say about everyone, her yorkshire pudding, the ‘Hi honey, I’m home!’, how her sunny personality loved the rain, the way she soaked up every moment, her infectious laugh, her positivity, her patience, her joy, her love. Joanne’s kindness had no limits. Joanne was the life of the party and we are all deeply saddened that her party ended early, less than one month from her 59th birthday and one year from her well deserved retirement.

Joanne – you are our yesterday, you are our today, you are our tomorrow, you are our every day.

In keeping with Joanne’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 7, 2022 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel at 709 Wonderland Rd N, London, ON. A private Celebration of Life will be held in late spring or early summer, details to follow. Friends and family who wish to donate in memory of Joanne are asked to consider donating to the Canadian Sepsis Foundation to bring awareness and educate the public about sepsis and septic shock. I am just so very sorry to have just heard of the passing of Joanne. It brings a big tear to my eye. I was one of those people who would stand and wait in line at the LCBO to have Joanne serve me. Yes, she was always upbeat and fun to have a quick chat with. My heart goes out to her friends and family. Safe passage Joanne. Gone too soon. With sympathy from Janine.

So sorry to hear of Joanne’s passing. We first knew her as a very supportive hockey Mom. And for many years at the lcbo exchanging how our boys were doing…always so pleasant. And for our daughter’s stag and doe, she took great pleasure stripping the little sample bottles from the back store room and sneaking them in to our order as “momentos “. She will be missed by all who knew her.

I would love to think that I was one of Joanne’s favourite customers but just wishful thinking 🤔 She was such a bright light and so full of positive energy and love of life and especially family ❤️ Always a quick remark followed by a joke🤩 My Dad was one of her beloved customers along with my mom and they would always bring her hot pepperettes from Norwich! She was so kind to come to both of my parents visitations on her coffee break or lunch to pay her respects❤️ 2009 and 2012 at Westview to my parents 🥰 Scott and children, she would talk to me all the time about all of you and her new granddaughter on the way and especially when she arrived 😍 I am deeply saddened for your loss and just know that she was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to be in her presence 😇 May God give you strength to be strong and relish in your memories 😘

While looking for another obit I saw Joanne’s photo & recognized her immediately … for every bottle of wine I purchased at Byron LCBO I sought her advice & we always shared a chat & laugh. What a vibrant personality! How missed she must be and I send you, as a customer, most sincere condolences on her loss.

Thanks for being you - you touched the hearts of everyone who ever met you - I always felt so very proud whenever we met someone and they lit up and embraced your beauty. I have read hundreds of tributes for you in the Free Press- FaceBook and from friends and family personally sending me their condolences. They all say the same - you were wonderful. You were a very special person Joanne and you know that because I have always told you that throughout our years together - I love you and always will love you - I miss you so much honey -you were so beautiful inside and out. We will meet again and we will start just where we left off - I promise you that and you know I always keep my promises. Joanne was an absolute pleasure to work with and just be around. She was such a positive influence on all around her and her strong work ethic meant she did not suffer fools gladly! I feel very fortunate to have known her and am so sad she left us too early. My sincere condolences to her family. Peace be with you.

What a sad day it is to lose such a vibrant beautiful lady. I worked with Joanne at Big V in the 80's. I absolutely loved her big personality and her laugh.
