Doreen Wanda Schweitzer

It is with sadness that we announce that Doreen Schweitzer passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Chelsey Park Long Term Care Home in London, Ontario, at the age of 91. She is survived by her daughters Janine Schweitzer (Ian Fraser) and Karen Speers (Mark); her grandchildren Wolff Schweitzer (Katrina Huszarik), Russell Schweitzer (Erin), Laura MacMillan (Malcolm), Katie Hazelton (Brandon) and Blake Speers; her daughter-in-law Margaret Schweitzer; and eight great-grandchildren. Doreen was predeceased in 2018 by her son Blake Schweitzer and in 2020 by her husband of 67 years, Edgar Schweitzer.

Doreen was a kind, generous and thoughtful woman who would have done anything for family and good friends. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and considered her family to be her top priority. She took great delight in finding the perfect gift. She was an avid reader who enjoyed curling up with a good book. Doreen was a talented seamstress who made beautiful things for her home and clothing for herself, her daughters, and her grandchildren. She was an accomplished cook who presided over many family meals and holiday celebrations.  Doreen was a longstanding member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was previously a volunteer with Mission Services of London.

Doreen’s family is grateful to the physicians, administrators and staff of Chelsey Park Long Term Care Home in London, Ontario, for providing compassionate care to Doreen and responding to requests from family with respect and flexibility, particularly with the added challenges associated with COVID-19.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Friday, June 3, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held following the service. Guests are encouraged to wear face masks out of consideration for the health of others in attendance.
