Rosemary Margaret Powers

July 2, 2022

With great sadness, the family of Rosemary Margaret Powers announces her passing at University Hospital in London, Ontario, on Saturday, July 2, 2022.  She is now at peace with her Lord.

Born in Noranda, Quebec, on February 8, 1933 to parents Adele and Wesley Powers; she was educated in Oshawa, Ontario, having graduated from Harmony Public School and Oshawa Collegiate. Rosemary became a Registered Nurse in 1956 through the auspices of Oshawa General Hospital. This achievement was followed by a Nursing Education Diploma in 1958, and a BScN from The University of Toronto in 1968. In 1972, she graduated from The University of Boston, USA, with a Master’s Degree as a Clinical Specialist in Medical-Surgical Nursing. Her practice included clinical teaching in urology, oncology and surgical nursing.

On her return to Canada from Boston in 1972, she joined the staff of the newly constructed University Hospital in London, Ontario. There she helped to establish nursing procedures in her areas of specialization until her retirement. She also acquired many close friends both within her profession, including Arlene, Heather, Tony, and beyond. All of these people enhanced her life and cared very much for her. A cat, Rampa, and dog, Fred, were also significant companions. Rosemary had a life-long interest in all sports. As a teenager she was the pitcher on a local girls softball team; she was a menace on the mound! She enjoyed curling, and travelling to Europe and the Caribbean. She also had a love of sporty, fast cars.

Rosemary is survived by her sister Betty (late Arden) and their children Rebecca (John), Rachel (Carl), and Rosemary (Peter); her brother Charles (Barbara) and their children Heather (Kevin), Debbie (Stephen), Paul (Cathy), Philip (Elizabeth), and Stephen (late Rebecca); her brother Thomas (Judith) and their daughter Anne. Rosemary took great joy in her many nieces and nephews, and in all of her extended family. Rosemary was truly loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, July 21st, 2022 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided. The committal will occur on Friday, July 29th, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., at Pine Grove Cemetery, 45 Jeffrey Street, Prince Albert (Port Perry). Donations in memory of Rosemary may be made to the London Health Sciences Foundation – Nursing Education or to a charity of your choice.

On behalf of the Lambeth Horticultural Society, we were saddened to hear about the passing of Rosemary. She enjoyed attending our monthly general meetings with her friends especially her nursing friends. Whenever a special Horticultural event was held, she was there to support it.....the Rose and Flower Show and the annual plant sale. Our prayers and thoughts go out to the family and friends of Rosemary. Helen Peternel President
