Karen Klug (née Wiegers)

April 24, 2025

It is with broken hearts that we share the passing of Karen Klug, who left us far too soon on April 24, 2025, at the age of 51, surrounded by family at Victoria Hospital. Karen leaves behind her loving husband, Ingo; her two children, Mia and Dylan, who were the center of her universe; her mother, Ilonka; and her brother, Thorsten. She will be deeply missed, but her love, laughter, and spirit will stay with us always.

Karen led an extraordinary life marked by compassion, curiosity, and drive. Born on April 8, 1974, she followed her passions across the globe, building an impressive international career. From Canada to Japan, Germany, Switzerland and Australia, Karen brought wisdom, energy, and kindness wherever she went. But no matter where her career took her, home was always wherever her family was.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Karen was the heart of her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished daughter and sister. Her greatest joy came from exploring the world and sharing those experiences with her children. A proud hockey mom, Karen spent countless hours cheering from the sidelines at rinks across Southwestern Ontario, always her kids’ biggest fan.

A private funeral will be held. Details regarding a celebration of life will be shared with friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to the Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre (formerly the London Regional Cancer Centre) or the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Karen and I shared a birthday, and every year on April 8th, she was in my thoughts. This year was no different. I didn’t have internet access that day, but I promised myself I’d reach out over the weekend. Then, Chris called and brought news of your illness. We said to each other, “Karen’s been through many health issues the past few years, but she’s a fighter. She’ll get through this too.” We truly believed that. That’s who Karen was — strong, resilient, full of grace in the face of challenge. Nothing could have prepared us for the shock of her passing, just a couple of weeks later. And now, I find myself writing this. It still doesn’t feel real. May your soul rest in peace, dear Karen. May the warmth of your memory and the beautiful life you lived bring strength and comfort to Mia, Dylan, and Ingo. May you continue to watch over them with the same love you gave so generously in life. Rest peacefully, dear Karen.
