Daniel Edward Gyetvai

Godspeed Danny, One of my all-time favorite teammates and a long time friend. You always carried yourself with pride, and walked your own pace and for that you earned the respect of others around you. My heart goes out to your family at this time.

To my former teammate, it was a pleasure playing alongside you and seeing you build your family and life in London. My sincerest condolences to the family. Rest in peace.

Dan you will never know how much you’ve impacted my life. I can still remember my first play date with Kja and cail. Your house still produced so many more memories 13 years later. Thank you for dealing with our countless sleep overs and giggles over the years. Growing up with your daughters has been an absolute pleasure. Your family has been a constant in my life since I was four years old. You will never know how many memories you made happen. One of my favourite memories is when you and me sat on the Elizabeth Noel couch for hours watching Kja try on every dress in the place and never once did you complain you saw and complimented every dress and bought the dress Kja fell in love with even tho it was over budget. I’ve watched you show up for your daughters in every way possible proving everything they needed you were such a good father. You also inspired me in my sports endeavours and gave me courage to play football and rugby. You were always so supportive and I thank you for that. I am so heartbroken that your gone but I know you gave Kja and cail the skills to succeed. I also know you will always be watching over your family. Love you Dan

Mrs. Gyetvai, Kristen, and Mike: Please accept my deepest sympathy on the heart-breaking passing of Danny. I had the pleasure of working with him as his strength coach when he starred for the University of Windsor Lancers. His outstanding work ethic and attitude as a gentleman and scholar, made him such a joy to work with on a daily basis. Dear, Mrs Gyetvai, Mike, Jill, Cousin Paul, Kja, Cali and the entire Family. I am beyond sorry for your loss. Words can't even begin to express it. Shock, disbelief, frustration and sadness. I don't know..... Dan, was a warrior. He was also one of the kindest, caring, fun, thoughtful and sharpest dudes around. Dan would give you the shirt off of his back if he had to. So many memories, trips, games, laughs, late night talks about life, ex-wives, kids, Family, Trump and it's over. Legends never die. Gyetz you won't either brother. Keep on keeping on. We are heartbroken to learn about Dan. We were fortunate to live in Winnipeg when Dan played for the Blue Bombers and get to know Dan again (he was a baby when I left home). Our two young boys ran to the door when he came by for dinners, eager to get a helicopter ride - he would balance one boy on each outstretched arm, to their delight. We had wonderful conversations around the dinner table, about engineering, sports, farming, life. His optimism and kindness was a constant. He often spoke of his family and always with such love. We loved cheering him on at games, screaming "go Dan!" and making the sound level metre on the jumbo screen go off the scale. I remember watching Dan effortlessly pull players out of a pileup on the field, one in each hand. We were amazed at the size of those linemen and the amount of pizza they ordered for the team. He was a joy in our lives and lit up the world. Ed, Catherine, Evan, Eli

It’s hard to find the right words when someone like Dan leaves us far too soon. For seven years, he and my Aunt Jill shared a love that was strong, supportive, and full of laughter — and over those years, Dan and his girls became so much more than just part of her life; he became part of all of ours. If you knew Dan, you knew he was always in motion — whether it was being active, helping someone out, or telling a story that had everyone laughing. He had that rare gift of making people feel good just by being around him. I swear I bumped into him everywhere — always with a grin, always with something friendly to say, and always making sure the people around him felt seen and cared for. He worked hard, not just in the everyday sense, but in the way he gave of himself so generously — with his time, his energy, his heart. Dan wanted everyone to be happy, and you could feel that in how he showed up — for Jill, for his friends, for family, and for anyone lucky enough to cross paths with him. Rest easy Dan. You are certainly loved by many.

Deepest condolences from the Marentette family and keeping you all in our prayers. I met Dan at the University of Windsor, and enjoyed many laughs, lessons and stories that I seem to apply everyday in my life, memories that I have cherished, and will for lifetime. Dan was larger than life, and super kind. He brought a sense of humour to all those what we thought were “stressful” university times, but actually were some of the best times. Dan kept our crew grounded in the fundamentals, primarily the fact that most things in life are made better with Slurpees from 7-eleven. But, looking back his quick mind and sharp intelligence helped make our crew better and succeed. Gone way too soon, Dan … heaven got the best o-lineman.
