As the soccer team one year younger to Abby's, our girls trained and played alongside Abby over the last several years. Abby's tenacity, skill and true sportsmanship always shone through on and off the soccer field. Our players and coaches respected Abby greatly for her strong work ethic, fair play and determination. We are all so saddened to hear of Abby's passing. To Sigman, Kanchana and Methuki and to all those who loved Abby, we offer our sincerest condolences. One of my favourite things about Abby was that she was always there for me. I loved her humour and always enjoyed her warm presence. She was such a talented person and was such big inspiration to me. She was hard-working, funny, kind, and never gave up. Abby, I miss you and will forever carry you in my heart. Thank you so much for all the memories you’ve given me, I am so grateful for our time spent together. I love you.

Although our family has only known Abby through her passion and talent in soccer, she was a light and inspiration to us all. She never failed to light up a game or practice with a comment or laugh, she was always the first one to help and support an injured player, and she was a beloved teammate to us. Our hearts go out to the Karunaratna family and hope you take some comfort in our memories of her. Everything Abby did with us during her time here will be remembered and cherished eternally. ❤️

News of Abby’s passing reached me yesterday and it broke my heart to hear it. When I think of Abby, I think of her high intelligence, quick whit, sense of humour and unmatched artistic ability. Please take comfort in the fact that the educators and coaches whose lives crossed paths with her’s….we cared for her very much. My heart goes out to you and your family. Dear Sigman, Kanchana and Methuki, I was Abby‘s grade 4 teacher. The year after I was lucky enough to have her again when I taught grade 5. She was a very special student at our school. She had a silent power and a kindness for everyone I love for students to memorize poems and she was often the first one to complete the task. She also read books way above her grade level. Her math scores were always level four. Abby could run. I mean, she had a real natural run and she loved to play soccer. On some days she would ask to stay in at recess to play Beyblades, or play cards, or try to solve the Rubik’s cube. I wanted to share with you the light Abby brought into my life! My thoughts and prayers are with you!

Abby was a wonderful friend, a supportive teammate, and a truly kind soul. She always offered a listening ear and had a great sense of humour that could lift anyone’s spirits. Abby was the most amazing friend I could ever ask for. She was always there when I needed someone or a helping hand, she was a kind and compassionate friend and always put others before herself. She was smart and had so many achievements and was amazing in school. She made classes more bearable and was a great person to be around. I miss you so much already. Abby was truly a blessing in my life and I’m so grateful for the amazing memories I had with her. She was loved by all on the team and made us laugh and feel loved like no other. Abby was a young lady with many admirable qualities- she was funny, determined, intelligent, kind and compassionate. I went to school with Abby and also played on the school soccer team with her. She was always so nice, funny, and made soccer something to look forward to. She was a very good friend. She was an amazing soccer player and a lovely person.
