Sean William Steven O’Meara

April 28, 1969 - July 26, 2025

After a brave, two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer, at Parkwood Hospital on Saturday, July 26, 2025, Sean William Steven O’Meara left us to join his father, Daniel Francis O’Meara, who predeceased him in 2021. Sean will be forever remembered by his beloved wife and best friend Darla Jean Wright, mother Trish O’Meara, brother Jamie O’Meara, sister-in-law Amy Blackmore, family and his many dear friends. In fact, when Sean made friends, he kept them for life, knowing some of them for upwards of 50 years.

When Sean and his brother were kids growing up on a farm north of London, they spent countless summer hours climbing the most un-climbable trees, building labyrinthine hay forts in the barn, catching endless numbers of frogs and turtles, and riding horses bareback in the paddock. When Sean was 23, he suffered kidney failure. His father donated a kidney, which was still going strong 32 years later at the time of Sean’s passing, a medical miracle if ever there was one. But Sean never let health struggles define him, and much like his most recent challenge, he persevered with fortitude and without complaint.

Sean’s determination served him well in every aspect of his life. He wrote mystifyingly difficult computer code for a living, but away from his laptop he led the multifaceted life of an extraordinarily talented creative. Making handcrafted wooden bowls and spoons, leatherworking, furniture refurbishing, restoring vintage tools, creating ridiculously imaginative art pieces out of found items and driftwood — there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do after he set his mind to it. This included turning Halloween pumpkins into incredibly realistic movie Minions, much to the delight of neighbourhood kids. But his passions didn’t end there.

Sean was also a highly skilled mountain biker, and there was no trail too gnarly or too tough (though from the occasional flurry of cuts and bruises, he may have met his match a couple of times). The warmer months were spent with family at the Lake Huron property he owned, one of the many places where he will be missed the most. An animal lover, he reserved great affection for much-adored family dog/mind reader Olivia (a.k.a. Peanut). Above all, Sean had a keen sense of humour, was thoughtful, kind, loyal and an adept listener. A problem solver par excellence, he was always ready to jump in and lend a hand. Words alone aren’t enough to describe how enormously Sean is missed.

His family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the many incredible members of Sean’s medical team from LHSC, as well as the exceptionally caring staff of the Parkwood Palliative Care Unit. There will be no visitation or service. A celebration of life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Parkwood Palliative Care Program, or a charity of your choice in Sean’s honour, would be very welcome.

Trish, I’m so sorry for your loss. Even though I didn’t know Sean, Bill always spoke highly of the O’Meara family. He often reminisced about the horseback fun him and Danny did, eg riding the horses to school on their last day of school. Just to let you know, Bill passed away on April 29,2025. He is now reunited in heaven with Danny. You are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. Hold onto the good memories which sounds like there were a lot. 🙏 ❤️
