Gilberto “Gilbert” Amaral

August 29, 2025

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Gilberto “Gilbert” Amaral, aged 67.  Gilbert died peacefully at home in London, Ontario on Friday, August 29, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a courageous 14-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

He was a loving and devoted husband and best friend to his beloved wife Linda for over 42 beautiful years.  Gilbert was a proud and dedicated father to his daughters: Rachel (Conor), Stephanie (Jeff), Melanie (Colin), and Olivia (Nick). Gilbert’s heart was fullest when surrounded by his family, and he found immense joy in being “Vavô” to his beloved grandchildren: Clarke, Aubrey, Leila, Rowan, Grayson, Blair, and Wesley.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Armanda and Gilberto Amaral and mother-in-law Shirley Walker.

He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings Gilberta (Eugene d.), Joe (Connie), Paula (Joe), sister-in-law Susan Roy, brother-in-law Doug Walker (Katie d.), father-in-law Jim Walker (Mary) and 17 nieces and nephews.

Gilbert had a strong work ethic and was a generous soul, always willing to lend a hand.  He loved spending time at his workshop and enjoyed every moment he could with his family at his beautiful cottage he built by the lake.  This was his “Happy Place” and his little piece of heaven.

Visitation will take place at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, September 4, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will follow at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre on Friday, September 5, 2025 at 11:00 a.m.  Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.

Gilbert’s family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks for all those who touched his life with their kindness, compassion and support during his brave journey.

In lieu of flowers the family requested donations be made to the Canadian Neuroendocrine Tumour Society (CNETS).

Alan and I are deeply saddened by the loss of Gilbert and share in your grief. Gilbert was an exemplary human being; exemplary in the courage he showed in fighting for every minute of his life over the last 14 years; exemplary in his craft and exemplary in the love and care he showed for his family. Over the years Gilbert provided his expertise and labor on many projects for my mother, stepfather and brother. Gilbert's skill and ability was perfection and he was always generous with his time to help extended family despite having a full plate at his own home. In the short, annual visits we were able to make to London, we always walked away with admiration, love and deep respect for the Amaral family. We will cherish our memories and are so happy the Lord gave Gilbert 14 years to make beautiful memories with his family. You are all in our hearts and prayers.

To All of Gilbert’s family we were saddened to see that he has passed. We met Gilbert several yeas ago through a cousin and Gilbert did do some house renovations and he became a good friend and was such a kind man. He was much too young to leave his family and friends. He will be missed by many. We are thinking of you. Our sincere condolences. Nancy and Joe Vandeloo

“I’ll call Gilbert” that’s something Mike often said as we navigated our many home renovations and improvements over the years. Mike and Gilbert worked many years with and around each other on jobs and were what I call, trades friends. Mike had great respect for Gilbert’s knowledge and skill and I always welcomed his friendly presence in our home. He always spoke very fondly and with pride of his family when we would chat. We witnessed his strength and positivity as he bravely fought this disease for many years and it is with true sadness that we learn today of his passing. We will miss him very much. Our sincerest condolences go out to you all, his most cherished family. May you find some comfort and strength in each other at this most difficult time.

Dear Linda and family, We had the pleasure of being cottage neighbours with Gilbert and Linda for 7 years. Gilbert was such a gentle soul. Gilberts health journey had ups and downs, but with Linda looking out for him… he was always positive and never complained. He put windows in our farmhouse and made it look much more presentable. We loved our conversations and Gilbert always had Sollutions. During covid…. We loaned Gilbert a kayak to see if he would like it. He loved it and started combing stores to buy some for the cottage. Supplies were depleted, but with persistence he did find one here and there. When telling him to borrow ours when the family was over…. he told me the sandbar was his limit and he did not know how to swim. This didn t stop Gilbert. He loved life. He certainly made this a better world and I know he will be missed by not only family and business acquaintances, but his friends too. RIP Gilbert
