Richard Wayne Doyle
November 15, 2025
Richard Wayne Doyle was surrounded by his family and the faith that defined him as he was gently gathered home by his Saviour on November 15, 2025, at the age of 80.
The loving husband of Barbara Doyle (née Mercer) for 57 years, whose loving support was the sturdy trellis quietly supporting his vibrant life. Together, they raised their family: daughters Sandra Doyle (Bill) Mallett, Karen (Gord) Page, and son Ryan Doyle. Rick’s heart was full of pride for his grandchildren: Ella, Will, Scott, Morgan, and Cameron; and gently held a tender place for his great-granddaughter, Charlotte, who preceded him in August 2025. Rick is also predeceased by his parents Eva and Bill Doyle, sisters Linda Erwin and Sue Doyle and in-laws Al and Marg Mercer.
A faithful, loving, kind man barely scratches the surface in describing Rick; he saw the glass not just half full but overflowing, and he spent his life pouring it out for others, especially while working alongside one of his best friends and pastor, Christine O’Reilly. Rick served quietly and loved fully. Being with his grandchildren and working with the youth group through his church, teaching youth as an avid horticulturist, passed along his green thumb gift and shared his own garden blooms with others.
Rick was a man who gave the best hugs with a mischievous smile, as the undisputed champion of the early morning Happy Birthday call Rick laughed heartily and always circled back to grace. Rick’s faith wasn’t loud; it was steady, the kind that showed up, the kind that listened as though you were the only person in the world and made everyone feel deeply seen, deeply loved.
In true Rick form, Rick’s family would like to invite family and friends to wear their favourite sports jersey/attire. Any team/ sport for a celebration of his life taking place on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Knox Presbyterian Church, 182 Main St, Thedford, Ontario, at 12:00 p.m., with a visitation proceeding the service beginning at 11:00 a.m. For those unable to attend the service a livestream is available.

Donations are appreciated to Knox Presbyterian Church to support ongoing Youth Programs that meant so much to him, as he taught and walked alongside a lifetime of young people.

We are so very sorry for the loss of our dear Bicycle friend, Rick Doyle. We met Rick and his wife, Barbara in The Villages, Florida many years ago while bicycling with the Lake Sumter Bicycle Club in The Villages. Rick became a wonderful Bike Leader for the Social Riders and we, too were a Bicycle-Sweep Team for the Social Riders who rode slower than Rick's riders. Besides riding bicycles with Rick, we would have Social Get Togethers for our Social Riders at each others' homes during the Snow Bird season when Rick and Barbara visited The Villages! We would rent rooms at recreation centers to enjoy games like Bunco, Left, Right, Center and even a silly game called "Screw Your Neighbor"! At one event we even celebrated Rick and Barbara's Wedding Anniversary with a beautiful cake and gifts for them to remember this special moment in their lives. When we were up north in Delaware we invited Rick and Barbara to visit us there and of course Jack and Rick would ride bikes on bike trails there and then join Barb and I for a picnic lunch! After Rick and Barbara no longer snow birded in Florida we decided to visit Rick in Canada! Rick became our Tour Guide twice in Niagra Falls, teaching us so many things about the Falls, then we treated him to a fabulous lunch in the Needle Restaurant! Rick became a Tour Guide to our son, daughter and their families as well. We all are very sad about his passing and we all are so sorry for your loss and our loss. We miss Rick very much and are keeping Barbara, his Children and Grandchildren in our prayers and hoping the wonderful memories we all made with Rick will help us through this sad and difficult time. With sincere sympathy and love, Linda and Jack Casto Rest In Peace, Rick! P.S. Jack and Rick always called each other on their June-July Birthdays to wish each other a Happy Birthday, Rick telling Jack that he was older than rocks and Jack would call him telling him he was older than dirt and they truly were Best Friends in Life! Jack made a mug of both of them toasting their 70th Birthdays and from that day forward they always drank from those Birthday mugs!
To my dear friend from our GNGH days, Barbara, when you met Rick while he was studying Horticulture. He was a caring, loving family and community man. I will keep the Doyle family in my thoughts and prayers as you move forward ,remembering the special husband, father , grandfather and friend that blessed so many. Vicki
We didn’t know Rick for very long. We meet Rick and Barb over a year ago when we all moved to Timberview Estates. We found Rick to be a happy and friendly fellow. We enjoyed talking to him on his frequent walks with Olie (sic) his faithful walking companion. He will be greatly missed by all of us in our retirement community. May his memory be blessing to all that knew him. Jack and Sheila (Unit 43)
Barb & your family My deepest sympathy to you all. I’m sorry that I am away right now, I would have been over to see you. Take Care of each other & remember all your good times together!!
We would like to convey our sincere condolences to Barb, and the entire Doyle family during this difficult time. I have known Rick from our days at the NPC School of Horticulture ( Class of ‘67) - what a true gentleman! Certainly enjoyed playing hockey with Rick for the School team , and then the Alumni games - what fun times those were! His mischievous smile was certainly a Rick trait! Keeping the family in our thoughts and prayers!
I am devastated to learn of Rick's passing. He was a dear friend and neighbour during our Peerless Court days, and beyond that to our get-togethers when Barb and Rick were visiting Sandra in Hamilton. I want to extend my sincere sympathy to the entire family. Rick will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him. Rest in peace in the arms of Jesus, dear friend.

My deepest sympathies and prayers to Barb and the family. I will so miss the chats with Rick about his faith and sharing Christ. He was such a great man of God and no doubt an example to so many around him. It was an honor and privilege to care for him over these years, I so wish the outcome could have been different and we would have had more time with Rick here on this earth but it seems Jesus needed a groundskeeper in Heaven, and he has a first round draft pick in Rick for sure.!
