Gladys Mary Schott

December 30, 1922 - November 26, 2025

Gladys Mary Schott, or “Glad” as everyone called her, was born on December 30, 1922, in Montreal, and spent most of her life in London.

She passed away peacefully in London, surrounded by loving family, on November 26, 2025, at the age of 102.

Gladys was the wife of Harvey Alvin Schott (d) and Robert Harvey Johnson (d). She was the mother of Jay Johnson (Joanne), Chip Johnson (d) (Janell), and Lesley Hamilton (Bob) (d). She was the grandmother of Steven (Emily), Sarah (Cole), Tracy (Matthew), Travis (Abra), BJ (Alison), and Michael (Taron). She was the great grandmother to 20 grandchildren: Levi, Hailey, Harvey, Ava, Lilly, Piper, Emma, Dashel, Jacob, Levi, Jessie, Jada, Alina, Maggie, Ellie, Bobby, Zachary, Chelsea, Owen, and Kate. She was the aunt to Charmaine Tatti (Joe) and Stewart Orange (Jacquie).

Her energetic spirit drew people to her and she lived a life filled with wisdom, humour and laughter. Those who knew her remember the sparkle in her eye when her son Jay would drive her around the Highland Country Club golf course or attend functions there together.

She was a London Knights season ticket holder for 15 years, her enthusiastic cheers joining other fans around the arena every time they scored.

Glad was a lifelong learner and believed in using her time to the fullest. When she was in her 90’s, Glad learned both to knit and paint, even holding several fundraisers using her knitting skills to make sock slippers, which she sold to raise money for charity.

Two of her favorite charities were London Humane Society and Victoria Hospital.

Glad’s faith in God was no secret, and she was always quick to share encouragement and God’s love with those around her.

Glad will be greatly missed by all her family and loved ones.

Funeral service will be held at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a reception at the Highland Golf and Country Club, 1922 Highland Heights, London, at 11:30 a.m. For those unable to attend the funeral service a livestream has been made available.

Glad was an encouragement and enlightening presence in my life at the age of 28. As a single parent, she gave me strength and encouraged me to be strong and let me know I can do anything on my own. I will never forget her and her little dog Penny. My condolences to her beautiful family. She was a force to be reckoned with and a lady who you would want to emulate. God bless this beautiful soul and her beautiful life worth remembering. Thankyou ♥️

Dear Jay, Leslie, and the members of your family, including Glad’s beloved Grand- and Great-Grandchildren, Wishing you all peace as you celebrate Glad’s life today, and honour her passing into her heavenly rest. Glad meant the world to me and to our family. We grew up with her – from the time we were born until her passing – she was with us either in person or in spirit, for every major event in our lives. She was a wonderful friend to my mother, Janie, and father, Michael, and she was truly a lifelong, adopted Grandmother to my sister and I. Her joy, generosity, and faith were a real testament to us growing up, and she was ever present to offer her wisdom, and laughter. It has been one of my life’s greatest blessings to know her. Glad was there for so many major events in my life and her presence is deeply woven into the story of my life, and that of our family. She will be truly missed. I had the good fortune of connecting with her again this past fall, and while our visit was short, and perhaps a little quieter than our visits in the past, it was a blessing to see her radiant smile as I came into the room… followed by her welling up with tears… a joyful response to reconnecting with each other. Over the years, our visits were such a wonderful opportunity to connect, reminisce over shared memories, or for me to repay her for all of the kindness and love she showed our family in whatever small ways I could. Glad will always have a special place in my heart, just as I know she will have a truly special place in heaven. Sending each of you lots of love, and blessings, as you celebrate her life, and mourn her passing. Jaye Bowers

In my 80 years I have never, ever found a more giving and loving lady. Glad gave willingly wholeheartedly, and with grace. She was also full of piss and vinegar and would always leave me laughing and in stitches over her "naughty jokes". She helped me with my babies and was more of a grandmother to them, than their own. They and I will very much miss her; but I am sure she is having a good laugh with Jesus in Heaven.

~ Janie

I am so sorry for your loss. I met Glad no more than twice, but she was a lovely lady. Thoughts and prayers to the family. 🙏🏼

Gladys was so loved by our family. She helped me in the 1990s when I went back to school part time. I had 6 children, 4 still living at home. She made it possible for me to finish a Master's of Divinity knowing our kids were well cared for in her care. Debbie

Dear Jay, Leslie, and Glad's family. I am so sorry to hear about the passing of Glad. She was a very important part of my life growing up and often would babysit me. I have many fond memories of her including her beloved dog Penny, among other things. She was a bright light in my life and treated me as if I was her granddaughter. I had the honour of introducing my own daughter, Rosetta to her in 2016 and was so excited to do so. Thank you for sharing her with me. She will be missed. All my love. My your memories of her be a comfort during this time. Lots of love and strength. Tara Monica Bowers (daughter of Michael Bowers)
