Margaret Wilson (née Taugher)

December 28, 1931 - February 18, 2026

With heavy hearts, the family of Margaret Wilson (née Taugher) announce her passing in London, ON, on February 18, 2026, at the age of 94.

Born on December 28, 1931, Margaret was the third child in the close-knit family of Francis and Anna Ethel Taugher (née Brennan). Mom and her seven siblings grew up in Verdun, PQ. In 1953, she married Robert (Bob) Wilson, and they were married for more than 60 wonderful years until his passing in 2014.

Mom was a dedicated wife, mother, Nanny (grandmother), and Nana (great-grandmother). Mom also had a successful career; she was a senior math teacher, school principal, and later a realtor in Verdun and Lasalle. After retiring, she and Dad spent winters in Florida, played a lot of golf and tennis, and made many close friendships. In 1999, they made their first of several trips to Europe, with Paris being her favourite city. As an educator and active member of the St. Jean Brebeuf church community in LaSalle and the Holy Family church community in London, she touched the lives of many. Many of her former pupils remained in contact with her through the decades.

Mom was a real powerhouse from early on. She started school a year early and was not afraid to push back when a teacher (usually a nun) marked something wrong (incorrectly, of course). She received a scholarship to Marianopolis and got her teaching certificate, which was immediately put to good use. She got her Bachelor’s while teaching, raising her children, and being a warden at St. Jean Brebeuf. When she decided to get her Master’s, she asked for a one-year sabbatical from teaching. This request was denied as a married woman “didn’t need an advanced degree like a man would.” She decided to show them and completed her Master’s – while teaching, raising her family, and being a warden in the church.

To say Mom was competitive is the understatement of the year. Whether it was bowling, tennis, golf, contract bridge, or euchre, she was there to win. She started playing bridge in 1948 and achieved National Master rank. She stopped playing a few years ago because she did not want to play if she could not win. When Mom took up real estate, she became Top 21 with Century 21. If you listen carefully, you can still hear the shuffle of the Boggle cubes as Mom and her sister Eva would play night after night. Everything was recorded; decades of results for bridge, Boggle, and Sequence would be archived in the game boxes.

Mom had a positive impact on everyone she met and was a real charmer. She was a social butterfly who loved to dance and give parties. She had endless patience with her students and all her darlings (children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren). She would never pass a panhandler without giving them a loonie or a toonie saying, “There but for the grace of God go I.”

Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband, Robert Peter Wilson, her parents Ethel and Frank Taugher, her mother-in-law Mary (Minnie) Wilson, and her son Robert Francis Wilson. She was also predeceased by her siblings Patrick (Doris), Maureen Banks (Robert), Norma, Eva Emo (Robert), Caryl Garebian, Frank (Kay, Pauline), and Phyllis Portmann.

Margaret is survived by her children, Deb Crossman and John T.; daughter-in-law Lynn; grandchildren Katherine (Mathew), Jason (Pamela), Tressa (Shane), Jackson (Matthew), Aiden, and Liam; and great grandchildren Archer, Rosemary, and Sienna. She is also survived by brothers-in-law Hanspeter Portmann and Keith Garebian along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and one great-grandnephew.
