Peter Godson Mitchell, aged 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 5, 2026, after a long battle with his health, surrounded by his loving family. Peter was known for his joyful nature, his ability to converse with people from all walks of life, his gift for making others laugh, his strong work ethic, and his love for getting together and partying. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Born in Grenada, he left there for work in England. After several years of employment, he made the move to Canada, where he lived out the rest of his life. He worked as a labourer all his life; working in telecommunications, driving buses in England, and, where he spent most of his career, at Ford Motor Company (foundry and assembly line).
He is the loving father of Stephen, Carolyn, and Mark Mitchell and daughter-in-law, Cindy Mitchell. Adored grandfather of Jamilah, Javonte, Kathleen, Raquelle, and Mylah Mitchell, and proud great-grandfather of Dakota Mitchell.
Peter was predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Freeman Mitchell, and his siblings Bonaparte, Godfrey, Ruth, Wilma, Agatha, and Bernadine. A funeral service will be held at Westview Funeral Home, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Dad, I miss your smile, laughter, witticisms. You had a bold personality and caring heart! As a child, I loved when you would take us to Bobblo Island, Detroit and on long drives listening to music…those memories I cherish. You are missed God Bless With love from your daughter, “Caro”
A very funny and, too often, misunderstood person. I can completely relate to the earlier “wallet” comment. I will always remember Uncle Pete as a caring, well intentioned man that was misunderstood by those who did not understand his passion for life and his concern for the well being of others.
I am very saddened and sorry for your loss. Condolences, blessings and prayers your way.
Dad, I missed you!!! Thank you so much for leaving me with great memories of our time together. They are forever etched in my mind. I will never forget your witticisms, they put a smile on my face, even as I remember them now. The way you pronounce my daughters names too ring favorably in my ears. Your concern for my well being when I drive home always touched my heart. I’m grateful that you knew God and would read scriptures and pray. You will never be forgotten. I love you!!! I didn't know Peter But growing up here gives me the faith to tribute everyone as well I give the family my sincere condolences and positive wishes. I wonder if Peter knew my Dad who was head of Purchasing at Talbotville frim the beginning My brother, Bob Gray worked on the line and went forward to management. Sadly, we lost him this past January 10 Always Ford Canada family I wish that I would have known Peter ❤️
