Mavis Louise McVey (née Mitchelson)
March 20, 2026
Mavis Louise McVey (née Mitchelson) was born February 15, 1928, in Rock Ferry, Cheshire, England. Passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, at The Village of Glendale Crossing, London, Ontario, at the age of 98. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Ronald Hubert McVey.
Mavis is lovingly remembered by her three children: Michael (Christen), Louise Forsythe (Brian), and Maureen (Doug). She was cherished as “Grannie” by Spencer, Simon, and Abigail, and as “Great-Grannie” by Leo, Auggie, and Sully.
Mavis and Ron emigrated from England to Canada in 1952, just a week after their wedding, beginning their married life in Toronto. They later settled in Scarborough and then Markham, where they raised their family. Once her children were in school, Mavis learned to type on an Olivetti manual typewriter and was trained in office practices, eventually working in the Markham offices of Konvey Construction until she and Ron retired.
In retirement, they moved to Byron, Ontario, where they enjoyed many years of travel and time together. After Ron’s passing in 2013, Mavis became active in St. Anne’s Anglican Church, regularly helping with Heavenly Pies, and she continued quilting for many years.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no funeral service. A private interment at graveside will take place at St. Anne’s Anglican Church in Byron, on Saturday, March 28 at 1:30 p.m., where Mavis will rest beside Ronald. Guests are welcome to join the family immediately following in the church.
Donations made in Memory of Mavis McVey may be sent to treasurer@stannesbyron.ca, or cheque envelopes will be available that day.
