Louie Skubic (Lou)

My sincere condolences to you and your family Jane, I hope you can all take comfort in those good memories. Take care!

My heartfelt condolences to you Jane, on the loss of the love of your life, Lou. It is a blessing to be with someone when they pass on, no matter how difficult the moment is. May you find the peace that surpasses all understanding as you grieve and as you remember a life well lived – a faithful soul who will be welcomed into eternity as a good and faithful servant; one who cherished his family and brought laughter to all. Please be assured of my prayers for you and your beautiful family as you let go of Lou’s physical presence, yet knowing he will be with you always.

I hold onto many fond memories from my time with Lou at Labatt. Today our flag was at half mast, the Brewery paused production and over 100 of Lou's co-workers lined Richmond Street to pay their respects to a friend, leader and valued employee as he passed by one last time. Lou, your memory lives on with each and everyone of us. Our shared condolences to Jane and the family.

To the Skubic family, I am deeply saddened to learn about Lou’s passing. I had the honor of working closely with him at Labatt. He was dedicated to Health and Safety and ensuring his co-workers were able to go home to their families every night. I spent a lot of time at Labatts talking with Lou in our respective roles there. We also spent time chatting about life and all of that as buddies. He had a great sense of humour as he always put up with me. As everyone will say on here, he was a great guy. He absolutely was that! But more than that, he became my friend. I had the privilege of working with Lou at Labatt for 14 years (and a bonus year when he came back to help with the construction of the new can line). I worked closely with Lou during my time as a JHSC rep for my department, and Lou was the health and safety co-chair. He was a great mentor, and always had a way to make me feel confident (even when I knew I was in over my head) Lou was the driving force to create the emergency response team at Labatt. Myself and many others were easily convinced by Lou to join the team. That team still exists today, thanks to Lou. Lou was a great, hardworking man that loved his family. He will be missed by all. Lou, I’m deeply saddened by your passing. Since we first met back in 2006 at Labatts, you welcomed me into your home and into your family like I was one of your own. I will always be grateful for that kindness. Some of my favorite memories will forever be the times spent in your “garage bar,” talking about life, our families, and sharing plenty of laughs. Those simple moments meant a lot and are memories I will always hold close. I’ll never forget the way you’d give me a big hug and say, “See you later Roberto!” I’ll miss those days, my friend, but I’ll always cherish the many years of friendship and the great memories we shared. Thank you for welcoming me into your beautiful family and making me feel always at home. You will be missed more than words can explain but I know you will live on through all the lives you have influenced. Heard so many wonderful stories from Clare and Tarn about Lou. He was such a gentleman, caring father and kind person. Wish we had the opportunity to meet in person. Our prayers & thoughts are with Lou and the family.

We had the absolute pleasure of being Lou’s neighbour, unfortunately, only for a short time. We moved next door in July, Lou was the most helpful, amazing neighbour we could have asked for. He helped us with our pool care, lawn maintenance and even gave our son enough toy cars for his whole class. Rest in peace to a wonderful man, we wish we could have known you longer.

I had the pleasure of working with Lou at labatts and being a member of the ERT team he led. Lou was a good man with a kind heart and he will be missed by many.
