Wayne McParland
September 13, 1939 - April 17, 2026
Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Heather McParland (née Dashnay); his children, Rod (Rita and her extended family) and Tara (Matt Jones); and his cherished granddaughters, Hannah and Avaleen. He is also survived by his sister, Lynn Lafrance (Tom), brother-in-law, John Dashnay (Mary), and nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his extended family and many dear friends.
Wayne McParland, 86, of London, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2026. Born in Mattawa, Ontario, on September 13, 1939, Wayne gave 35 dedicated years to a career in education that spanned Streetsville, Elliot Lake, Sudbury, and St. Thomas. A passionate educator, he was most proud of his work as the founding Principal of Monsignor Morrison Catholic Elementary School in St. Thomas.
In retirement, Wayne found joy in traveling the world with Heather and their friends, “puttering” in his yard, and sharing many happy hours with loved ones. Over 42 years, the company of three golden retrievers brought immense happiness to his life. Wayne will be long remembered for his kindness, his sense of humour, and his love for telling a good story.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. George’s Catholic Church, 1164 Commissioners Road West, London, on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. Following the Mass, a reception lunch will be held at Westview Funeral Home, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive guests at Westview; all are welcome to attend either or both services.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful staff at Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital for their compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society.
He will be deeply missed.

I’ve known Wayne for over 70 years when we were neighbours on First Ave. In North Bay. His little Sister Lyndy was a best buddy as we roamed the neighbourhood. I’m pretty sure Wayne was tasked at having to round us many times. Lots a great memories. You’ll be missed Wayne. 🩵💙
