Dr. David Scott Munro, B.A., M.D., Addiction Cert., M.C.F.P.

June 16, 2026

It is with profound sadness and deep respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Dr. David Scott Munro at home on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at the age of 77 years, following a sudden diagnosis of glioblastoma.

His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 42 years Darlene Munro (née Yeo), and by his daughter, Lisa Munro, of whom he was immensely proud.

Dr. Munro loved amusement parks, especially Cedar Point. Some of Lisa’s fondest memories are of spending entire days riding roller coasters with her dad from opening until closing. Lisa continued going with her dad well into her teenage years because she knew how much he loved it. As a family, it was a tradition to attend at least two Toronto Blue Jays games every year, especially the final home game of the season.

Dr. Munro loved animals, particularly cats, and shared a special bond with his beloved cat, Lilly.

Dr. Munro was born in Chatham, Ontario, to the late Donald Roberts Munro and the late Helen Munro (née Binns). He had fond memories of his childhood growing up in Oakville with his younger sister, Anne Ballantine (née Munro). He was a proud graduate of Purdue High School, where he was recognized as an Ontario Scholar. He went on to complete medical school at the University of Western Ontario and his internship at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto.

Since March 17, 1975, when he first began assisting his mentor, Dr. Ross Lewis, Dr. Munro was a dedicated physician. He embodied the essence of person-centered care throughout his career, from his early days admitting patients through St. Joseph’s Family Medical Program to his final days in practice, when he was still making house calls.

He was an old school doctor who cared for many of his patients from birth. He delivered babies, performed procedures, cared for patients in hospital, and often cared for multiple generations of the same family. He was privileged to share in many of life’s most important milestones alongside his patients.

He was a lifelong learner who loved reading about medicine and medical advances.

The family would like to thank Dr. Hamilton and Dr. Stack of the London Home Palliative Care Team, as well as the nurses who cared for him, especially Sabu Thomas, for their compassion and support. We would also like to thank our family physician, Dr. Sophia Anthireya-Kakani.

Dr. Munro’s care has been entrusted to Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London.  At Dr. Munro’s request, there will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lawson Research Institute through St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation in support of glioblastoma research.

Darlene , Lisa ….our deepest sympathy in the passing of Dr Munro. He was our neighbourhood “Family” Physician for 50 years. He will be sorely missed by all that received his extraordinary care. We were sorry to hear of his passing. He was our doctor--a very kind and compassionate man and made housecalls. We will miss him. Our deepest sympathy for the family.

Dr. Munro became my mom’s doctor at Grand Wood Park and was an incredible and compassionate provider of care for her. Even after her stroke and she had to move to Glendale Crossing LTC he visited her every Saturday even though she was no longer his patient and I know he did this for many other people. She always enjoyed and looked forward to his visits and I enjoyed his passion for the Blue Jays. Wishing his family and friends the power and comfort of memories of a life well lived.

“ Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
