Peggy Awde (née Burt)
June 17, 1923 - July 10, 2026
Peggy passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, in her 104th year. Peggy was the devoted wife of the late Frank Awde for 70 wonderful years and loving mother of Dr. Murray Awde (Kathryn) and Dr. Douglas Awde (Jane). Predeceased by her parents, James and May Burt, and her siblings, Maisie McCrone (Peter), Dr. James Burt (Jean Roemmele), and Robert Burt (Pat). Proud grandmother of Graeme, Tracy (Bryan), Kevin, Daryn, and Sam (Danielle) and cherished great-grandmother of Sydney, Reyna, and Chace. She is also survived by her beloved nieces Cheryl Burt, Kathryn Neil, Roberta Awde, Anne Keeley, Pam Leavitt, and Joan Ostrom, as well as many other well-loved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
Peggy was born in Windsor, Ontario, on June 17, 1923, to a proud Scottish-Canadian family. She lived a life defined by unwavering devotion to her family, quiet strength, kindness, and grace. Family was the centre of her world, and there was nothing that brought her greater happiness than caring for those she loved. Summers at the family’s beloved cottage in Haliburton, surrounded by family and friends, were among her greatest joys and became the setting for countless treasured memories. An exceptional baker, Peggy delighted in spoiling those she loved with an endless supply of gourmet baked goods, a simple but lasting expression of her generosity and affection. She was the heart of her family, a constant source of wisdom, encouragement, and unconditional love whose influence will be felt for generations to come.
In her later years, Peggy found great happiness among the many wonderful friends and neighbours she made at King’s Gate in Arva. She will be fondly remembered for her warm smile, gentle spirit, and genuine interest in everyone she met. She was also rarely without her faithful canine companion, Milo, whose companionship brought her endless comfort and joy.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers and nurses whose exceptional kindness and compassion enriched Peggy’s final years. Their loving care went far beyond duty, and they quickly became like daughters to her. The family will be forever grateful for the dignity, friendship, and comfort they provided.
Peggy will be deeply missed by her family, her many friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, generosity, resilience, and devotion to family will continue to live on in the lives of those she touched.
