Wendy Ann McKechnie

July 30, 2026

Wendy Ann McKechnie passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2026, surrounded by her family. Cherished wife of Donald James McKechnie, beloved mother of Deborah MacMillan (Jon), Deanna McKechnie, Duane McKechnie (Chantal), and Dawn McKechnie (Rein). Proud Gaggie of Madison, Sydney, Caleb (Hyewon), Kate, Dan, Nick and Ryan. Missed by dear friends Mike and Mary.

Wendy grew up in Montreal, where she was a teacher, in her twenties. She absolutely loved that job. She taught in one of the poorest areas in Montreal and her students meant the world to her.  She kept a photo of her first class in her wallet.  When she moved to Ontario, she became a health care aide and worked at Chelsey Park. She was the best caregiver you could ask for; compassionate, empathetic and she loved her job. She was instantly attracted to caring for the feisty residents. She would stay late, comfort families during their losses and sit bed-side with them. Caring for people was more than a job; she genuinely wanted to comfort people during the hardest times of their lives.

She adored her husband, whom she met late in life, and was finally so happy to be loved, appreciated and safe. They spent their time together effortlessly, spending time with what was suddenly a very large family. They made so many wonderful memories together that will always be cherished. They enjoyed a simple life, just enjoying each other’s company with some trips to Niagara Falls and a dream road trip to the East Coast.

When she became a Gaggie, she couldn’t have been more thrilled.  She devoted herself to her grandchildren, who still liked having sleepovers into their twenties, as she never slept and had the absolute best junk food. She was so happy that Maddy had come up with the name Gaggie, as she wanted something unique, like Bopa.

As a Mom, there really are not enough words.  She shared a very special bond with her daughter Deborah, one that will be cherished forever.

The family is forever grateful for the outstanding care and love shown to them from the staff at Evergreen Walk at McCormick Home. They loved her like she was family and they held the family very close during a difficult journey at the end.

A visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday August 6th from 11:00am -1:00pm, followed by a service at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Wendy’s memory are asked to consider the Alzheimer’s Southwest Partners or McCormick Care Group.
