Winnifred Jean Collier

July 31, 2026

Winnifred Jean Collier passed away peacefully after a short illness at University Hospital, London, where she was gently and compassionately cared for, on Friday evening, July 31, 2026, at the age of 85.

She was predeceased by her parents, Bramwell E. Collier and Mary (Low) Collier Fuller, and her stepfather, Edward Fuller, as well as her sisters, Elizabeth Pearson and Margaret Ann Collier (who died in infancy), and her brother, William Collier. She is survived by her oldest sister, Mary Lou Justason; her sister-in-law, Marty Collier; her paternal cousins, Barbara Collier Blackburn and Ann Collier Honey; her Low family cousins; as well as nephews, nieces and their children.

Jean was born in Stratford, Ontario on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1941. She had a happy childhood growing up in a large family. She attended Romeo Public School and Stratford Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

Jean Collier was proudly a registered nurse, graduating from Hamilton General Hospital in 1962.  For over thirty years, she worked at Victoria Hospital and then University Hospital, London, as an operating room nurse, mostly assisting in neurosurgical procedures. Her kind eyes behind a surgical mask and her lovely voice would reassure patients undergoing serious operations that they would be well cared for.

She was a member of St. George’s Anglican Church, where she enjoyed deep and enduring friendships with clergy and parishioners.  Her dear friend, Elaine Fontana, and her patient husband, Carmen, have supported Jean over the years and her family during her last illness. We are so very grateful.

After her early retirement, Jean volunteered at the London Cancer Clinic.  She also enjoyed doing mystery road trips with friends and entertaining with a choir at Chelsea Park Retirement Home.

Jean was an animal lover, most particularly of cats.  Her last cat, Penny, survives her, even though she is elderly as well.

A funeral service will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 227 Wharncliffe Road North, London, on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.  Visitation will take place one hour prior. Donations to St. George’s Anglican Church or a charity of your choice, particularly one supporting animals, will be appreciated.
