Victor John Nantais

May 23, 1961 - August 21, 2026

Victor John Nantais, of Komoka, Ontario, passed away peacefully in his 66th year on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Strathroy General Hospital, with his beloved wife Christine Nantais and his children by his side. During the months leading to his passing, he faced his journey with immense courage, grace, dignity, and gratitude.  For the duration of his illness, he was surrounded by the love of his family and friends.

A consummate family man, more than anything, Victor’s life was defined by his devotion and dedication to his family. He was the beloved husband and partner to Christine Nantais for 28 wonderful years. Vic was a loving and dedicated father, leaving behind a legacy of love in his children: Laura Dawe (Michael Pivar), Taylor Dawe (Sara), Corina Nantais (Brian Kielstra), Heather Dawe (Dave Lunman), Kaye Nantais (Angeline Fernandes), and Celine Nantais (Isaac Robinson). He was also “Poppa V” or “Grampa” to his ten adored grandchildren.

Victor was born in Windsor, Ontario, on May 23, 1961. He was the third of five children born to loving parents Elton and Doris Nantais, who predeceased him. Victor is survived by his sister Valerie McCourt (Lyle Kernighan) and his brothers Gordon Nantais (Jane Armstrong), Glen Nantais (Lisa), and Kenneth Nantais (Karen). Vic spent his youth in Windsor, Orillia, and Kitchener-Waterloo, surrounded by excitement and the love of his family. On any given day, it wasn’t unusual to find a group in the driveway working on cars, or inside the family home playing board games.

Building on his talent for machinery and mathematics, Victor went on to build a successful career as an injection mould maker. He later utilized his skills at Formet Industries in St. Thomas where, after 25 years of service, he retired in February 2025. It is a well-known fact that there wasn’t anything Vic couldn’t build or fix.

Victor was a dynamic, optimistic, and multi-faceted man who squeezed every ounce of joy from his life. Vic was always ready for an adventure, whether it be a trip to the Caribbean, dropping an ice-fishing line, driving his beloved muscle cars, or picking away at his guitar. In his down time, Vic was a history enthusiast who enjoyed watching war movies or documentaries, which aligned closely with his interest in aviation; having earned his leisure craft pilot’s license in his younger years. An avid outdoorsman, Vic had a true love for nature, from boating, fishing, and camping to tending his yard, feeding the birds, caring for his beloved cats, or helping stranded animals to safety.

A visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, September 12, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service to honour Victor’s life and luncheon.

For those wishing to make a gesture of remembrance, memorial donations can be made to the Salthaven Wildlife Rehabilitation & Education Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society.

Today I said goodbye to more than just a client—I said goodbye to a truly wonderful man. He always welcomed me with a warm smile, made me a cup of coffee, and somehow knew how to brighten my day. He would even share his favorite cookies with me—a small gesture that showed just how kind and generous he was. When he was home battling cancer, I asked him what his favorite Hungarian meal was because I wanted to make something special for him. He said cabbage rolls. Seeing how much he enjoyed them brought me so much happiness. I’ll always treasure that memory. Thank you for every smile, every cup of coffee, every cookie, every conversation, and for allowing me to care for you. Rest peacefully. You will always hold a special place in my heart and will never be forgotten. To his wonderful wife and family, thank you for always making me feel welcome. My heart goes out to all of you during this difficult time. I hope you find comfort in the countless lives he touched and in the beautiful memories you shared together. He was deeply loved, and he will be deeply missed.

Our deepest sympathy to Christine and the entire family. Vic and Christine were wonderful, kind and caring neighbours before they moved to Komoka. An endearing quality of Vic, was that he always thought of others before self, particularly family. May all the wonderful memories uphold you now and all the years to come. God’s Peace to you!❤️

Vic was always a gracious host when Christine would have her TD squad into the house with all of our high energy and big personalities. It wouldn’t matter if we were on the mic for karaoke or potluck snacking or recounting memories he would sit back and share laughs and make us all feel welcome into the wee hours. Sending strength and love to all of his family and friends affected by this tremendous loss.

So sorry for your loss.

Vic and I were great friends. We first met when we were just 15 years old. He and his family lived next door and were like a second family. Vic took me to my very first high school prom. We spent practically every day together, along with our group of friends. As described in the obituary, it was not unusual for the guys to be working on their cars. Vic’s 1972 Charger was a power machine lol! Weekends were spent playing risk or other games, drinking, hiking in Elora, watching concerts… later as we grew and got married our lives changed with family and children but what always remains is the bond of friendship and love. My heartfelt condolences to everyone. I will not say goodbye to my dear friend…. Instead, “see you on the other side.”

~ Carolanne Pychel

I will always remember the great times with Vic. He was incredibly handy with fixing things. I recall a time when I needed to reset an old school spring board at the pool at my previous house. We ordered the needed fittings for the “Baja board” and Vic redid the anti slip on it put in the fittings and set the board. Unfortunately you’re now at the “Baja board” in the sky but the great memories will live with me forever my friend. Brian

So sorry Chris and family. What a great man! Worked with Vic for many years. Victor always had a way to tell a funny story and have a great laugh. He was always thinking about something whether it was a funny movie or something to innovate a job at work. He has left us with such great memories and has had such an impact on us with his larger than life personality! Love that guy!

I was so very saddened to hear the news of Vic’s illness and his recent passing. Vic was one of the kindest, caring, and selfless people I’ve ever known, and would do anything for you without hesitation. Over the years we had many great laughs, saw some amazing concerts, and made some unforgettable memories. His absence will leave an unbearable emptiness in many hearts. My deepest condolences to Chris and their children. Thinking of you all♥️

A message from the Apostle Paul to Timothy ... Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. Timothy 6:18-19 Go with God, Vic. I will miss you, love always. Val
