William John (Jack) Dixon
February 22, 1935 - October 5, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father and papa, William John “Jack” Dixon, on October 5, 2026, in his 92nd year. Jack was born February 22, 1935, in Welland, Ontario, the oldest of four children.
We are so grateful that family from near and far (even Jenna, his youngest grandchild via FaceTime from Sri Lanka and again from Vietnam) were able to say their goodbyes by his side. Jack will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 69 years, Shirley Marie (née Sonnenburg, married October 12, 1957), his children Tim (Linda) and Kimberley (David), his adored grandchildren Carson (Claire), Cody, Lindsey (Chris) and Jenna, and his many nieces and nephews. He is survived by his sister, Margaret (Herman) and brother, Bob. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Roy, and sister-in-law Eleanor. Last, but not least, his loyal four-legged friends Abbey (predeceased) and Lucie.
Mom and Dad created countless memories throughout their lives while camping with friends and family. They especially liked sitting around the campfire; sometimes Papa would let someone else build the fire, but not often. Tim and I both love to ski, which is something we also did as a family – Dad skied until he was 74 (Sun Valley 2009). He also enjoyed golfing, curling and biking. When he biked (especially with his grandkids), he was happy to stop to eat licorice and cookies, but definitely willing to make a detour from the route if there was ice cream nearby. We are so thankful to our parents for creating such a loving environment for our four kids – they have an amazing relationship, even with more than a 1,000 miles between them. Years of camping at Inverhuron (swimming off the rocks) will definitely be a lifelong memory (the kids even tattooed the coordinates as a lasting reminder). Papa always said, “If I knew grandchildren were this awesome, I would have had them FIRST!”
Dad wore many hats during his career in the automobile and plastic industries, but his lifelong goal was to own his own business, which he successfully did until he retired. Papa’s stories, traditions and memories will remain a lasting part of our lives and continue to shape who we become. We will cherish his memories forever.
We would like to thank the medical staff at the University Hospital in London for caring for him in his time of need.
Cremation has taken place. His cremated remains will be held until such time as he and Shirley can be interred together at the Sensabaugh Cemetery, Attercliffe, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, Jack’s wishes are for a donation to either the Humane Society London and Middlesex or the Alzheimer Society of Ontario.

Deepest condolences to the Dixon families on the passing of “Papa” Jack. We have such wonderful memories of our visits to Inverhuron, where Kimberley and her girls would spend a few weeks of the summer camping with Papa and Nana. We all looked forward to a day spent on the beach (and on the rocks!); and an evening around the campfire. Jack and Shirley were always such generous hosts. We can still see Jack at the bbq, flipping hotdogs, while Shirley prepped in the trailer. We will treasure the time spent chatting, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. Papa was a special guy - we will miss him and his beautiful smile. Sending our love to all of you, Karen, Mike, Matthew and Amanda
