Harry Heber Homer

Peacefully in his sleep on Friday, October 2, 2026 at the age of 91 at Parkwood Hospital London, Ontario. Harry leaves his wife of 45 years, Joanne Dow, their son Mark Homer, daughter-in-law Alyssa Chrastina, his daughters and sons-in-law Karen Homer and Hugh Schomburg, Hilary Homer and Paul Smith, and their mother Judy Wood. Survived by sisters Doris Holmes and Sandra Forgrave (Otty), mother-in-law Mary F. Dow, many nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents Charles T. Homer and Annie Homer (née Hunter), his siblings Dorothy Drummond (Howard), Donald Homer (Emma), Shirley Aiton (Billy), Mabel Ring (George), brother-in-law Harold Holmes, niece Elizabeth Jardine (née Drummond), cousin Eric Homer (Birmingham, UK), father-in-law Elmer Dow and nephew Adam Dow.

Harry was born at home on a farm in Southfield, N.B.  After attending Southfield Elementary School and Norton High School, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and was soon serving as navigator aboard the supersonic-capable CF100 jet interceptor. He and pilot Jim Spencer (deceased) were stationed in Cold Lake, Alberta and North Bay, Ontario with Black Knight Squadron 414. Harry then worked for Bell Canada and attended the University of Western Ontario before teaching for more than 20 years at Central and South Secondary Schools in London. Harry returned home to New Brunswick nearly annually to visit friends and family. Harry leaves many friends and colleagues from the Hyde Park and Oakridge communities, his teaching career and from the Fox Hollow Retirement Residence.

Cremation has taken place. Visitation will occur at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Sunday, October 25, 2026 from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

Interment will be at Roy’s Cemetery, West Perth, Ontario and Riverbank Community Cemetery, Kings County, New Brunswick at later dates.
