COVID-19 Safety

Westview Funeral Chapel & COVID-19 – Updated – New Temporary Rules

The health, safety and well-being of our families, guests and staff is our top priority. As concerns over COVID-19 continue in our region we are committed and prepared to safely care for the families we serve during this COVID-19 pandemic. We have instituted additional hand sanitizer stations and additional cleaning regimens, as suggested by Canada’s Chief Public Health Officer, the Middlesex-London Health Unit and the Bereavement Authority of Ontario.

As the COVID-19 situation is evolving, we recognize the importance of acknowledging a life lived and will continue to offer the emotional support provided by visitation, funeral and memorial services at Westview Funeral Chapel. In doing so, we must adhere to all recommended health and safety procedures and comply with the most recent directive of limiting visitations and services.  As of January 5, 2022, under the provincial reopening guidelines of Step 2, attendance at all indoor funeral services will be limited to 50% capacity of a particular room with physical distancing of two metres regardless of vaccination status.  Outdoor funerals and graveside services are limited to the number of people that can maintain two metres of physical distance.  Cemeteries may have additional restrictions.  It is mandatory for all staff and attendees to wear face masks/coverings for visitations and funerals. Indoor receptions are not permitted.

Only two people plus funeral staff may attend in-person arrangements.

To better ensure reduced transmission to others, we are encouraging families that have suffered a loss to consider holding a small private service in our chapel or to consider the postponement of services until such time as these restrictions have eased. We do have the capability to live stream and record services for those unable to attend. We will endeavour to arrange these services by telephone, zoom meeting and electronic transmission of documents whenever possible.

According to the Public Health Agency of Canada there is currently no known risks associated with being in the same room at a visitation or funeral service, with a body of someone who died of COVID-19.

We are also asking visitors to please not come through our doors if they are feeling unwell.  Passive screening of our visitors will be done by self-assessment.

As this remains an evolving situation, there may be changes to our policies and services. Please feel free to contact us by phone 519-641-1793 or to check back regularly to our website for further updates.
