Alan Lavery

May 11, 2022

We said goodbye to our beloved Alan, in his 91st year, on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. Cherished husband for 65+ years to Edna. Devoted Dad to Kay (Rob) and Heather (Pat). Proud Grandpa to Zachary and Kasey.

He left us in his own quiet and dignified way. Loved by all who knew him, he was a gentleman unto the end. He was born in Hebburn, England to Isabella and Thomas Lavery. Predeceased by his siblings Edna, Jennie, Eddie, Tom and Malcolm. Survived by sisters-in-law Jean and Lucy; brother-in-law to Jackie (Sandy) and Jill (John) of Scotland; as well as numerous nephews and nieces in the United Kingdom.

We thank cousin Julia (Colin) and our dear friends for their support over these hard-fought months, especially Betty Janes and Edna Valk, and all our other support group colleagues from Aquafit where we attended for 25 years, there are too many people to name, but you know who you are.

Alan did his national service in the Air Force, then went on to work at James A. Jobling (Pyrex) as an industrial glass blower. He immigrated to Canada in 1967, where he became employed by Ford Canada until his early retirement in 1994. We had a wonderful life together. As long as we were together we were happy, spending some winters in Panama City Beach or touring Europe by car and cruising. Alan loved to learn about everywhere he went. He was a hard worker, and right until his diagnosis he would take on anything. He was very skillful on any job he tackled and was happy to help anyone.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to nurse Rob Heffner, Dr. Kirk Hamilton, and Dr. Anna Johnson.

Please join the family for a Memorial Reception on Friday, May 20, 2022 at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, beginning at 1:00 p.m. with Words of Remembrance at 2:00 p.m.

In memory of Alan, please consider memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
